“Screaming kids / infants do not belong on planes! Flight crew useless! Bad parents also!”
Review of Japan Airlines (JAL)

Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Flight from NRT to TPE, flight delayed, then some Taiwan parents did nothing to control their infant. Four adults in the family, two kids, one of which was an infant, screaming for the entire duration of the four hour flight. Flight crew did nothing. Parents and Grandparents did very little. Infants DO NOT BELONG on flights, period! Selfish parents bringing their infants with them on vacation, what is the point? Seriously? And this all was in Business class!! I paid extra for my seat so I don't have to deal with this garbage, unfortunately both airlines and parents take no responsibility for this issue. BAD! Just really bad!

Excellent customer service and superb food. The quality and space of seat in Premium Economy is almost as good as the old style business-class (before the sleeper seats were introduced) and definitely worth the money. JAL offers a huge baggage allowance (each person is allowed 2 x 23kg check-in bags), which really helps when travelling with the family after a "shopping holiday". The entertainment system is excellent and easy to use. Premium Economy customers can also use the airport lounge. My only criticism is the relatively poor standard of English and JAL's insistence of its staff "squeaking" in as high a tone of voice as is humanly possible when making announcements - extremely annoying and antiquated (JAL management need to revise this policy and move into the 21st century!)

    • Seat comfort
    • Customer service (e.g. attitude, care, helpfulness)
    • Cleanliness
    • Food and Beverage
    • Legroom
    • In-flight entertainment (WiFi, TV, films)
    • Value for money
    • Check-in and Boarding (e.g. efficiency, service at gate)

I have flown at least 700 times in my life, and dozens of times with JAL. Their in-flight service is always pretty good, the meals are okay, but...

Their website and web check-in process is the WORST of any airline. It's so frustrating trying to get through their system; confirmation number not valid, can't find my booking, error error error...

Hey JAL, here's some advice: just COPY what another airline does. Just do exactly what they do. Figure it out; completely revamp your process. It stinks.

Flew the Dreamliner on the direct flight and for a 13+ hour flight, it was actually enjoyable. The only challenge is trying to sleep as the flight leaves at 1:30 pm, Boston local time. Business class seats are very comfortable and offer plenty of room. Overall the food was good and plentiful. Service was very professional and responsive. Amazing how easy it is to fly across the world.

Flying an American Airlines flight, operated by Japan Airlines, meant that little or no service information made it through between the airlines' systems. A window seat, confirmed with AA on the phone and showing on the AA mobile app was totally absent for JAL, so even with a high priced business class ticket, I got the dregs of the seats. All the JAL agents could say was, "so sorry."
Arriving in DFW, I had to ask where the baggage claim was, because the two airlines' systems couldn't link and update me. One world isn't a good thing unless its a good world, and from my experience, it's not.
