“Deceitful Advertising”
Review of Airlink

Reviewed 8 January 2025

The Durban-Harare route flight is completely a scam. The aircraft is very tiny and they charge luggage per kg. I was charged R130 per kg after exceeding the 20kg limit. This limit is for all your bags (all your bags should add up to 20kg) before the R130 per kg limit is applied.

The ticket did not specify this whatsoever, rather it said I am allowed 4 bags(20kg). Comparing to other flight tickets, this is very devious and deceitful.

I was very unhappy and bitter paying R4000 for 2 bags that needed to be checked in. If this had been specified while buying the ticket I would have added another bag.

Airlink is very disgusting.

It's a disgrace
Shame to airlink to have an elderly with walking aid -two walking sticks to go go 30 stairs up to get to the plane
It was painful to quite a handful of passengers
Airlink can and should do better

Excellent flight, the crew were great. The flight was punctual. The service on board couldn’t be better. They even served free alcohol on such a short flight (something that with the European airlines is unheard of). We flew several flights with Airlink afterwards. They were all very good. They have brought back the fun of flying while in other parts of the world we dread it.

I had an incredibly frustrating experience with Airlink on my flight from Windhoek to Johannesburg. Initially scheduled for 7:10 AM, the flight was delayed until 9:20 AM without any proper communication or assistance. To make matters worse, the company rebooked us on another flight and only sent an email during the original boarding time for the new flight, leaving us scrambling for information.

The airport in Windhoek lacked basic infrastructure, such as access to updated boarding passes or digital card readers, making the situation even more stressful. Airlink also forced us to check our luggage, even though there was plenty of space in the cabin to store it, adding unnecessary inconvenience.

Additionally, my partner and I purchased our tickets together and paid an extra fee to sit next to each other. Despite this, we were assigned seats far apart with no explanation or option for a refund for the additional fee we paid.

This level of service is unacceptable and incredibly disappointing. Airlink needs to improve both its customer communication and operational management. I would not recommend this airline to anyone and hope they address these glaring issues immediately.

Airlink is the airline with the most connections across the African continent. We never had a bad flight to be honest. This time, we had tickets that, unfortunately we could not use atthe time. They were valid for 1 year, but due to health reasons, we couldn't travel within the time frame.

When we finally were able to rebook, we asked for a 7-day extension on the expiry of R14.000 worth of tickets. Customer service was exceptionally inflexible and, no matter what, they would not extend our tickets by 7 days for us to be able to use them. I will forever shout this from the roof tops. This would have been a small thing for them to do. They chose not to.

Please note that Flysaffair has started their first route to Windhoek. For the time being this is only from Capetown, but I am sure this will increase soon. They have much more flexible ticket change policies and are much cheaper to start with.

I don't think we will see much of Airlink in 10 years' time.
