Having never cruised, I came across what I thought was a really great offer (and it was) but others had paid less and some much much more.

The service from all the staff without exception was brilliant, although sometimes a little over the top, it beats bad service any day.

The food was, mostly, excellent. The 47 (A La Carte) and 47 Gallery (for Italian) was consistently brilliant for lunch and evening meals, breakfast was a little more hit and miss. The snack shack was good with a reasonable selection and the Glasshouse was also quite good. The islands buffet I tried twice and honestly I was very disappointed, but people I met said that they thought it was excellent so maybe not to my taste. I didn't get to try the speciality restaurants as it appeared that you could only book in as a couple, but feedback was that they were excellent and well worth the extra fee.

The drinks service was very good all across the ship, with the option to take as premium drinks package at about £10 per day. I didn't and the range of drinks included, and proper brands (Bacardi, Smirnoff, Baileys etc) was plenty fine for me.

The entertainers worked extremely hard and the shows that I saw were good.

My cabin was perfectly adequate, queen sized bed, a sofa and a TV (not many channels) although you don't spend much time in your room. I would seriously consider one with a balcony next time. For extra space but also being able to take in the views as you cruise around. .

Not very much and certainly not enough to flavour my review was that sauces were like gold dust and were hand spooned by the staff and also sugar for coffees etc were the same although this might be a covid restriction.

Overall, I had a great time and although I travelled as a solo I did meet a group of other travellers and we, in different numbers, met for meals and sometime a walk out into one of the destinations.

The ship was well under capacity, estimates were 40 - 60% full (this was the first international cruise for 18 months) and my review might have been different had it been full.

There are Covid rules and testing requirements that seem quite difficult and confusing, and to honest, TUI were very poor at imparting the knowledge of what was to be done when, although they were learning on the job too. But once done these were straightforward enough, its just the stress and knowing when to do what. I think some of the more elderly people of the ship found this particularly difficult.

I did, however, have a really good time and would cruise again. The Discovery is about the right size, we saw a few American behemoths in port and I think that that would be a less personal experience.

Just come off the Discovery after a cruise around the Greek Islands .The first thing I must say is that the health and safety and cleanliness of the ship in this pandemic is first class which immediately puts you at ease ,The staff from the captain down are exceptional and give everything to the paying guests to make it an enjoyable holiday.Their is plenty of choice of food in the restaurants ,the bars offer different entertainment to suit all needs and being an A/I cruise their is a great choice of beverage to choose from all branded. The shows that are put on by the entertainment team were superb and during the day if you don't go ashore their is plenty going on around the pool deck ,if the weather is not good you also have the bonus of the indoor pool .Apart from the pool deck bars all restaurants and bars are waiter service and again the staff do there upmost to serve you in a timely manner and always with a smile .Unfortunately I had to leave the boat early due to a family issue and once again the help I got from the customer relations officer Lynne Smith and her team was brilliant they booked all my flights home and produced all the necessary paperwork I needed to travel which really sums up an excellent crew this ship has and I will definitely be doing another cruise on the Discovery very soon. Thanks for a memorable trip.

Cruised with tui a number of times. Ship holds 2200 and we had 880 on bard due to covid restrictions. It was fabulous. Staff are soo happy to see you after lockdown and we paid 602 each for a week in the Greek island all inclusive which is a bargin compared to other cruise lines. We like a smaller ship so this was bigger than the dream or celebration but as reduced runners it was fab. Not sure how it would be fully booked but for now it’s great!

Fabulous from start to finish. Covid procedures were excellent, test before we flew, necessary for a Tui cruise, not necessary to fly. Tested again at port, tested midweek by Tui. Temperature checks daily via a quick machine reading. Entertainment fabulous, West end style shows plus games in Sqid and Anchor. Some really good musicians aboard including two great guitarists/singers and two groups. We didn't bother to upgrade the drinks package and we found the included all inclusive package was sufficient for us. My hubby had a couple of Strongbow Dark Fruit ciders which we paid for. Food on the whole really good, disappointed Tui have discontinued the steak on a stone in the glass house, the steak kebabs were nowhere near as good. We booked an outside cabin , previously had a balcony cabin but found we never used it as alway out on deck or in a show. Only really used the cabin for sleeping and showering. Spotlessly clean! Itinerary was wonderful, Corfu, Crete, Rhodes, Santorini, Zante ...but couldn't dock in Zante due to thunderstorms, so Captain Chris took us to a little fishing port Githios instead, which was very pretty. My personal favourite was Santorini, rise up the cable car to a wonderful view. Great cruise, good value, well done Tui!

Aegean Shores Cruise 1 – 8th October 2021 Before l review the cruise l thought l’d go through the process of the forms filling and testing. We booked out tests through Chronomics and the service was excellent. As soon as we booked the tests they provided the reference number you need for both the Greece plf and the UK entry PLF. For the Greece form l filled this in two weeks before departure, all people in your party are added to the one form. As soon as l pressed submit, it was emailed to me instantly. The next process was the Antigen test required by the ship, submitted not before 9pm prior to departure. Talking to passengers they found this the most stressful and l’m not sure why it has to be after 9pm. However once you log on to register the kit the instructions are easy to follow and again as soon as I pressed submit, I instantly received a link to access the negative confirmation form. But this could have been carried out earlier in the day and therefore less stressful. On arrival at the ship, we were tested and again midway though. Each day you have your temperature tested at machines located on deck 4. If you fail to do this by 4pm your card is blocked and you are contacted by reception. The next form to complete is the UK plf, completed no less than 48 hours before returning to the uk. There was guidance on one of the ships tv channels and plenty of cruise staff to help. For anyone nervous about the process, another alternative is to leave all your details with a relative / friend who can complete it for you and then email you the completed form. At Corfu airport you needed to show your double vaccinated certificate along with the UK plf. Some people were having difficulties bringing the form up on their phone. l’m sure if the ship offered to print the forms at a cost a lot of people would have taken this offer up The final step is the 2 day PCR test taken once you get home. This can be returned either to a TUI shop or posted. Onto the cruise. The ship was at 50% capacity so very covid safe. Masks had to worn when walking around inside the ship and when queuing up outside at the bar. The staff wore masks at all times. On the decks more waiters were required so this would have saved passengers having to queue. Food. The buffet was in operation with staff putting the food on the plate, l hope this continues. There are so many places to eat and the standard was very high. The lunch time fish and chips were amazing! And the afternoon tea lovely. The Glass House turns into a lovely restaurant in the evening, with antipasti sharing boards and tapas choices, all superb. We visited the Surf & Turf one night (£28.95 pp) and the food was outstanding. Entertainment. The 4 tunes were excellent and the Collection okay but instead of doing short 45 minute sessions l would have liked there to have been one venue where lively entertainment was on all evening, instead of a good group followed by slow piano or guitar music. I’m sure the passengers who like slow back ground music would also prefer this. The saxophone player on the deck was amazing and we would have loved to hear more of this. Air conditioning. The air-conditioning was set too low with people wearing sweatshirts coats and even scarves. So bring something warm to wear in the evening. Everything has gone digital and this even includes accessing the menus. My phone wouldn’t connect to the ships ‘navigation’ website so I had to ask for a paper menus which were readily available. The destinations were excellent and everything was so close so the only trip we went on was to Athens (8km from the ship) The trip was for 4 hours and gave us 2 hours free time to explore. The tour guide Chrisest, was very informative and it was certainly worth the £48pp. We were due to call at Zante but due to bad weather this was changed to Gythion. This is a lovely place and should definitely be included on future cruises. Thank you Captain Chris! Apart from all the excellent things listed above, the staff are Marella’s biggest asset and they bring repeat passengers back time and time again. Thank you all for an amazing cruise and we can’t wait to be back again.

Just back from a wonderful week cruising around the Greek islands. Itinerary so enjoyable with great stops. Food great ( except for personal disappointment with such small selection of gluten free food at breakfast/ afternoon tea especially, but also sadly, in general. Yes, gf rolls available at all times- but became so fed up with the little bread rolls, and sooo longed for some sweet croissants/pastries. At tea time- tiny, hard scones with one or two gf sandwiches and the odd gf piece of cake. Come on- you could do so much better.) The crew are akin to a large, close and supportive family, they cannot do enough for you and are all so delighted to be back together after so long without passengers. The evening shows in the theatre are totally incredible, so professional with a cast that would not be out of place on the west end and some of the costumes held a total “wow factor”. Ship not yet running to full capacity, great when looking for seats etc and during theatre performances when directed to spaced out seats by the hosts - but sadly, also means that Marella are only making a reduced capacity profit, let’s hope for full cruising soon. Top marks for all Covid safety measures, tests the night before, tests on arrival at port, half way through week and 2 days before return. Daily temperature checks via little stand up machines, masks at all times when inside and even mid week cabin fumigation. Another liner we were following had minimal measures and were very impressed by ours. The day before return, passengers did find the uploading of tests and the completion of the Passenger locator forms tricky and some spent a very stressed couple of hours sorting it all out - which somewhat took the shine off their last day on board. Others, however, were lucky enough to sail through the test, uploading of pic and the pl forms, just as well as the reception queue grew by the minute! (Luckily, the return tests will no longer be a requirement due to easing of restrictions.) A special locator form help session was put on to ensure guests were able to complete their forms - indeed, over a dozen crew members gave up their free time to volunteer at this session to help out - this further illustrates the passion of the wonderful crew, under the wing of the fantastic and humorous Captain Chris. Thank you Discovery for a memorable and relaxing cruise and look forward to seeing you soon.
