Does anyone know if this festival is an annual event? We will be in Siena the third weekend in July. Would it be worth a day trip to Sarteano?
I couldn't see it listed here, their giostro in August is what they're most famous for. (Even if you don't read Italian, you'll be able to figure the dates). Sarteano would be about an hour's, very beautiful drive assuming no stops, so it could be argued it's worth driving over there purely for the scenery perhaps stopping at some of the lovely villages en route. You could do a great drive via Buonconvento, San Quirico, Bagno Vignoni, Sarteano (via the dirt track to Castiglioncello del Trinoro), visit Sarteano and return home via Chianciano, Montepulciano, Castelmuzio, Asciano, Siena. That's an amazing day out with or without a colourful festival thrown in.Edited: 28 May 2014, 17:24
