Hiking in Tarvisio

Hello

I'm looking for some advice about hiking in Tarvisio especially Jof Fuart and Jof di Montasio. I'm hoping to be in the area next Summer.

Is it possible to reach the summit of one of these mountains in a single day? Also, is it possible to do it without specialised climbing equipment like for via ferrata? I would be hiking on my own. I'd appreciate any reliable online resources or books you can recommend on hiking in the area and specifically these mountains. They're not that easy to find.

Thanks and regards

Barry

You will find some basic info here: http://www.tarvisiano.org/en/39922/Mountaineering but I agree that guidebook are scarce (and non existent in English, I believe).

Both Montasio and Jof Fuart require quite a bit of scrambling.

I have personal experience only of the regular route up Montasio (from Sella Nevea) and it was rather exposed, with several vertical stretches and a 70m long ladder ('scala Pipan'). Definitely not for the faint hearted.
