I am looking for top suggestions for a weekend in Cincinnati. We are arriving on Friday and touring the ballpark and doing a game that night. What are your other must-dos in your city? We are traveling as a couple and have never been to Cincinnati. We are looking for suggestions on best things to do and best local places to eat. We don't like eating at chain restaurants when we travel. Also, best part of the city to stay in? Downtown our outside and use transportation? Thank you for any advice you may have!

Stay downtown or just across the OhioRiver in NorthernKentucky. There are several new hotels in both including a new AloftHotel (directly across from HofbrauNewport) in my neighborhood. Or you may like a venerable hotel like the NetherlandHilton or the CincinnatianHotel. Perhaps you could tell us a little more about what you like to do and in the meantime mine this board under "Things to do" and restaurants, etc. . . . Also, if you will let us know when you are going to be visiting you will likely get some information about special events that may be ongoing. And do check back with specifics . . .

Sticking words together to try to avoid the highly annoying autolinks generated by TA.

Thanks for the feedback. We really like to experience a new city like the locals. However, if there are any tourist places that are worth seeing then we like that also. We are coming April 14-16 when the Milwaukee Brewers are in town. What do you mean by mine this board?

RE: mine the board . . .

Use the search function and I think you will see that this or a similar question has been asked several times (not that there is anything wrong with asking again;) then go back and look at other posts and mine them for information then come back and ask some slightly more specific questions.

I see you are from Milwaukee so I assume you like beer? If so, good news, you should be happy here . . .

As for doing as the locals do a must-try is Cincinnati chili (an inverted "5-way" is just the ticket after a lot of beer). One specific thing that I will recommend now is to go to FindlayMarket in OvertheRhine on a Saturday morning (when there isn't a lot else to do) and have some breakfast. BlueOvenBakery makes croissants and other goodies of a very high quality (or you could eat here http://www.jrcincy.com/french-crust-cafe/ - or both). You can get there via bus, streetcar or on foot if you stay downtown or nearby. Other neighborhoods/areas worth seeking out include The Gateway quarter (lots of restaurants and a pleasant urban park); Mt. Adams/Eden Park and the nearby CincinnatiArtMuseum(free); CovingtonKY and Mainstrasse . . .

What my colleague means is for you to click on the tool bar for attractions and restaurants for lists of place in downtown or the city. Also, read back over previous Forum pages for similar questions and review the answers there.

Downtown Cincy is small and compact compared to most urban areas which means you can walk to the ball park and all around downtown where there are plenty of things to see, do, or eat. The new streetcar offers cheap transportation into the Brewery District or Findlay Market and down around the riverfront if you prefer not to walk. The website listed above will fill out your info.

Being from Milwaukee, I'll suggest the Hofbrau House in Newport or Moerlein on the riverfront plus the usual's like Cincinnati style chili, Greater's ice cream or candy, Montgomery Inn Boathouse for ribs, and a slab of crisp goetta with breakfast.

Welcome and enjoy!!

Tafts ale house and Eli's BBQ would be nice additions to your eating and drinking list!

Enjoy

When my husband and I visit Cincinnati we stay in Newport. It's away from the traffic of the city, but close enough you can still get there quickly to enjoy what all the city has to offer. There used to be a shuttle that would pick you up in Newport and take you to the games for $1.00. I would definitely look that up. Newport is a fun little place also. I hope this helps, enjoy your trip!

If you like art museums, the Taft Art Museum is a gem in our city. It's a fine art collection in a beautiful historic home.

Also, another hotel to consider is the Marriott Residence Inn in Lytle Park right near the Taft. It's got a boutique hotel feel, an amazing breakfast and a rooftop bar.

Cincinnati Brewbus does a beer tour of some of the craft breweries. It's an opportunity to taste beer while learning about the history of beer in Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati Zoo is also fun to check out while getting some healthy outdoor exercise. It also has a botanical garden and beautiful landscaping throughout the grounds.

Maplewood is fairly new here and they have really yummy food for breakfast and lunch. Mita's next door has an excellent chef. Another fun place to eat is the Incline House (take a taxi or uber) for good solid american food with a view of Cincinnati.

Let us know what sounds appealing and perhaps it can help us think of other related things to check out. Hope you enjoy your trip!!
