Roach-free stay in Wailea/Kihei

I know this is a tired topic in the Maui forum, but I haven't seen many recent posts about this topic in the Wailea and Kihei specific forums.

Does anyone have recommendations of hotels, Airbnb's, or other rentals for the Wailea/Kihei area of Maui that are very clean and are free of cockroaches? Places to avoid are also helpful. The reviews and forum threads I've been reading have made me very nervous! I know I can't be guaranteed to not run into one, but I'd hope that a 95% chance of having a roach-free room is not unreasonable (but please let me know if it is).

Trip would be August 2021 for about 4-5 nights. A kitchen/kitchenette is a requirement due to allergies.

Please refrain from commenting that Hawaii is a tropical island and that I need to suck it up. I'm well aware of this, and I have the option of simply not going on this trip if I feel uncomfortable. I have a very bad phobia of cockroaches, primarily because I lived in an infested apartment in LA, and then a year later, had one fall on me from the ceiling in a cabin in Texas on vacation. I'm aware this is an irrational fear, and I am going to therapy to help with this and other anxieties. But I'm not counting on being "cured" of this fear in less than a year.

Please be compassionate and respectful! Thank you!

Is there a reason you are only considering south Maui? In August, your chances of rougher water are much higher there and in lower Kaanapali.

I would book the Montage. If that's too high, consider the Ritz Residences. Kapalua Bay, Golf, or Ridge Villas would also be good. You might also check Napili Kai.

Is August on Maui a bad time of the year for bugs?

I've been to Hawaii a few times, once to Maui, maybe six times on Oahu, I've never seen a roach where I am sgtaying there, and I am a budget traveler. Seen them in the Caribbean or Mexico but not Hawaii so far.

have been staying on Maui mostly Wailea, for many trips have not seen any roaches that I can remember in the unit either hotel or resort

most places work hard to keep things clean and we don’t leave a lot of food out during our stay

your fear is only irrational to others but real to you so I can see your concern, my wife is not a big fan of them either,

we get roaches on our patio here in San Diego at home from time to time

they are around most places so probably no guarantee as you can find them anywhere, but never been a problem where we have stayed in Wailea or anywhere else on Maui

there is no roach zone so to speak

hope that helps

Bugs don't know a 2-star from a 5-star. It only matters how much a private rental, hotel, or resort property puts into spraying insecticides. If you don't do that regularly in the tropics things can quickly get seriously out of hand! If there are no ants running around on your kitchen counter, someone is doing something behind the scenes.

Two dozen visits to Maui give or take and never once encountered a roach. Which makes me wonder how much insecticide I have been exposed to.

There are no bugs in NW Maui?

My mistake. I better remove my post then.
