Landmannalaugar - Bus or Super Jeep for Day Trip

Hi guys! I'm staying in Hella for 1 night and want to get out to explore Landmannalaugar on a day trip.

I'm tossing up whether to do the cheaper bus trip out there (which gives you 6 hours to explore by yourself) or do a Super Jeep Tour - which is $300AUD more expensive!

I'd like to hear from people who have been before - is it ok to explore on your own by catching the bus. Or should I pay the extra and take the Super Jeep?

The main goal of the trip is to see the coloured mountains and get some photos of them.

If I'm not mistaken the super jeeps go to locations nearby the Landmannalaugar area that the buses won't go to. It's up to you to decide whether that is 300 AUD worth or not....

If all you want to do is see the mountains and take pictures taking the bus is fine.

On a superjeep tour you will stop at other sights on the way and have a guide to tell you stories, answer your questions and teach you about the history and geology of what you are seeing. Only you can decide if that is something that you enjoy and that is worth the extra cost for you.
