If you aren't able to buy these warm things at home before you arrive, you can certainly buy them here. If you are staying in Downtown Boston, I'd suggest you go to the TJ Maxx at Downtown Crossing, which will have the best prices on hats and gloves and sweaters, etc.

Dawn: Checking in to make sure that you know that the Patriots football stadium is not in Boston, but in a suburb. You'll need to make arrangements to get there and back: either renting a car or taking a special train from South Station in Boston to the stadium (and back). You may know this from reading the Forum here but wanted to be certain that you are aware of that.

Bundle up! For the game, definitely long underwear, wool socks, warm boots (not fashion boots, winter boots with a lining), layer a T shirt and sweater over the long underwear, winter coat on top (like a ski jacket or down parka) over everything with warm hat, scarf and gloves. The stadium is outdoors and depending upon where your seats are, the wind can rip through. The food concession area is covered, but not enclosed on the side so that is not a place to warm up. Even if it doesn’t seem that cold at first, the cold really seeps in as you sit there for a few hours!

The other thing to know about the football game is that the stadium is OUTDOORS. the only enclosed, heated facility that most patrons have access to is the bathroom. You can get out of your seat and go "under" to get out of the wind but it is not as it it is heated like an indoor venue such as the Celtics (basketball) game.

Weather is unpredictable. I have walked the dog in a T-Shirt on Christmas Day (2015) and on New Year's Eve 2017 the city cancelled the parade and 7pm fireworks due to extremely cold temps. High temp for that day was 13F (-11C) and at midnight it was 4F (-16C)

These are unusual temps. Most of the time it is somewhere in between.

I didn't mention the outdoors thing, because I figured you already knew that. But it's good to check.

One other thing I forgot to mention is that you will want a warm scarf as well as a hat and gloves. As mentioned, the wind at Gillette Stadium can really be whipping around people as they are sitting exposed to the elements. A good scarf will allow you to wrap it around your face to keep your face from freezing and your nose from falling off. :) In all seriousness, though, you will want the scarf to wrap around your face and neck if it's really cold.

Beantownman, I always check because a few years ago on the NYC forum a poster was planning on taking a 13 month old to a game in January. She had no idea about the open stadium/cold. She sent her husband alone!

Did know the game was outside. 😒 I don’t understand the game. I will just pray it’s not the coldest day of the year!

Taking a baby in that temperature wound have been awful.
