Temporary Timetable for Ferry

we have just returned from a trip to IOW

this was booked from Poole to meet our Grandson and Great Grandson at Yarmouth

we arrived from poole on train to lymington to see the ferry leaving

when we questioned this we were informed that there was a temporary timetable because of Harbour works

this we understand but when we asked why we had not been informed when we booked we were told that they don't share the information with the train companies

it was not so much the delay although we had to contact grandson who was waiting to collect us from yarmouth where parking is not easy

it was more the attitude of staff - are they not trained to deal with unhappy people

we also paid £90 for a round trip - which we don't consider cheap

disappointed and perhaps wont bother to go again -

The information has been on the Wightlink website since January . It should have shown when you checked/booked the ferry.

A senior day return is £12.70 and a period return is £18.00.

Rawtalent - to be fair to the OP it sounds like they booked a through ticket with a train company so would have not seen the Wightlink website. If the amended timetable wasn't mentioned in that booking process then they've got a right to be annoyed - if part of your journey is affected by engineering works you are told when you buy. On the other hand they can't have been held up for more than an hour and is parking really that difficult in Yarmouth in March? I've had problems during the summer but not even during the Easter holidays.

Finally, the price. Yes, £90 for 2 is a bit steep but just to Lymington from Poole is £37 for 2. Combine that with the foot passenger rates outlined in post #1 and you save a bit. I think it's always worth checking that journey as a split ticket. Also a railcard would have paid for itself with one trip at £90 - and if I had a great grandchild to visit in wonderful West Wight I'd want to do the trip often

If the ticket was booked right through. Then yes, the train company should have informed the customer.

Whilst everyone on the Island loves to hate Wightlink, in this instance, I don't think they can be blamed as the train companies should have been aware.

Although the harbour work should be finished, I understand there are ferry cancellations on this route today.

So as with all travel bookings it's always wise to check the service status.

thank you for that we booked at Poole station where you do the complete package. we did not use the ferry website - obviously an oversight on our part but one would assume in this day and age that sharing information would be a matter of pressing a few keys - still disappointed
