Hi IchMexico,

I will share here what I previously answered in another thread on this topic...

It’s absolutely normal to have anxieties about the current situation when considering a visit to Jordan these days.

Based on similar events in April when Iran launched missiles and drones targeting Israel, I believe the response this time will likely not be more severe than before. If airspace closures occur, your airline would need to provide alternative arrangements. In the worst-case scenario, you might end up with an extra day or two to enjoy exploring Jordan.

I understand the concerns about traveling given the current regional tensions. While it's always wise to stay informed, Jordan is generally considered a safe destination for tourists. Here’s some advice to help you feel more comfortable with your decision:

**Stay Informed: Monitor news sources and travel advisories for any updates related to the situation. Websites like the U.S. Department of State or your country's equivalent often provide travel advisories.

**Travel Insurance: Consider purchasing travel insurance that covers trip cancellations and interruptions. This can offer peace of mind if you need to make changes to your plans.

**Hotel and Transportation: Since you’re staying at a reputable hotel and traveling with a well-regarded tour company, they will likely provide support and updates should any issues arise.

**Airport and Travel Precautions: Keep in touch with your airline for any potential changes to flight schedules. Airports and airlines are typically well-prepared to handle such situations and communicate any changes promptly.

As of today, I haven’t observed any notable changes in Amman or any other cities in Jordan. So, I recommend proceeding with your travel plans; I believe you'll experience a smooth trip in Jordan.

While recent events may raise concerns, Jordan has a stable security environment overall. The country has well-established security measures in place to ensure the safety of its residents and visitors. However, like any destination, it’s always advisable to stay informed about current events and to exercise caution while traveling.

Certainly, Western news might advise against traveling to Jordan, but it's important to balance such information with local perspectives as they don't experience daily life here firsthand. News from outside can often paint a more alarming picture than the reality on the ground. From my experience, Jordan remains very peaceful and is a wonderful place to visit at this time. It’s wise to consult multiple sources to get a well-rounded view of the situation.

If you have any specific concerns or questions about safety during your visit, please feel free to ask here or Jordan Forum at the thread called Safety! I’m sure there will be many people happy to provide you with relevant information and assistance.

I hope this helps! Enjoy your visit to Jordan.

Warm regards,

Khaled Masadeh

ichMexico, as Raymongordon mentioned, there is another thread pinned at the top of the first page that provides information, experiences, and opinions on the safety issue as it applies to traveling to Jordan.

I provided a few responses but will duplicate it in this thread. Right now it is safe to travel to Jordan but no one knows what is to come. News outlets today have reported that Israel is preparing for an attack from Hezbollah and Iran. The tit for tat behavior of both sides continues to escalate. Various news outlets, both Western and regional, have stated that Iran plans to retaliate sooner rather than later for the three most recent assassinations of political and military leaders.

In my opinion, war between Israel and Hezbollah is inevitable, with Iran and a few Western countries eventually joining in. The region will become hotter unless folks can get to the negotiating table. Many analysts from the West and in the region have opined that Hezbollah will attack Israel from the north while Iran’s longer-range weapons are fired from the east. If that is the case, then Iran's missiles and drones will fly over Jordan like they did in April where many were shot down by mainly US and Jordanian military. While Jordan's involvement in the war has been limited to bringing parties to the negotiating table a couple of times at a Dead Sea resort and allowing goods to reach Israel through its land borders, it will probably increase as it did in April. When the US tells Jordan to engage militarily, Jordan has no choice. It is the second largest recipient of billions in financial and military assistance (e.g., weapons, F-16s, etc.), after Israel. This has been the case for decades so Jordan is not in a position to say no when told to participate with western countries in shooting down Iranian missiles and drones like it did in April. The only difference between what is to come soon and what took place in April is that Iran made it clear that it will not provide the timeframe and location of the next attack (see Al Jazeera news pieces). This is the element of surprise in war.

I live in Jordan and was in Amman in April. I think that the overhead show of force will be greater this next go round as the US, Jordan, and other partner western nations who are also based in Jordan along with the US' numerous military bases, participate to protect Israel. Strategically, Jordan is the perfect staging area.

By laying out what has transpired and what analysts expect to come based on statements made by Israeli, Iranian, and US leadership, only you can make a decision on whether to travel or not. You need to feel comfortable with your risk level. As I said, it is safe to travel now but no one has a crystal ball and can tell you what will happen in the near future and if or how Jordan will be affected.

If you do decide to travel to Jordan, I strongly suggest you sign up for the US State Department's STEP program. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/before-you-go/step.html. It is fast and easy and will provide you real time notifications about what is going on and what to do in Jordan or any other country you are traveling to, should a crisis occur.

I provided more information soon after the October 7, 2023 attack to include phone numbers on the following thread: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g293985-i2131-k14554544-US_State_Department_s_Smart_Traveler_Enrollment_Program_STEP-Jordan.html

Safe travels
