Well me and my mom is going to China this summer and I was wondering if I take my backpack as my personal item can I put my DSLR camera in my backpack?

How did you decide to post this in the Alice, Texas forum? Perhaps you are in Alice. You need to post this in an appropriate place, like the China forum or in the air travel forum.

You would never put an item as valuable as a DSLR in your checked luggage. Carry on is the only place for expensive and essential items...so yes, put it in your backpack.
And I too find it interesting that this is posted in the Alice, Texas (30 minutes down the road from me) forum! Enjoy China
