Grab is affordable and easy.

Just Da Nang?

The bus system is fairly extensive but not "user-friendly" (no English on almost all the routes, except for a little English on the Da Nang - Hoi An route.)

Don't know if the electric bus that serves tourists on the coastal side is back in operation or not.

Check with your hotel.

There's also Grab bike and traditional motorbike taxis (again, ask your hotel).

This is, IMO, the best method to travel around Da Nang, especially if you're traveling solo.

The main area is just the right size for this, and it's the way to go if you want to visit the Monkey Mountain on the Son Tra peninsula or the Hai Van Pass (or into a number of alleyways.)

Otherwise, it's Grab Car or traditional tacos as the other two posts had mentioned.

Cheers,

John

Electric trams are up and running in DaNang out in the beach area. The bus to Hoi An when I was there last month was not running but have no further info on that. Grab bike to and from Hoi An was 120K.

Drifter,

That bus line had moved out to the suburb.

It now starts at the Vietnam - Korea University of Information and Communication Technology at the boundary line of Da Nang and Quang Nam.

One needs to take the R16 to transfer to town.

The route map for it can be seen on google map by typing in the name of the University in Vietnamese.

Cheers,

John

Unfortunately, as Singapore does not adhere to the 1968 Vienna convention, your driving license is not recognized in Vietnam.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vienna_Convention_on_Road_Traffic

You could ask the hotel to see if they can find you a 49cc scooter. Those are harder and harder to find.

Traffic is OK outside of rush hours. Locals here ride/drive fairly slowly.

John

Google Maps will route you by public transport within Da Nang, so probably little English needed. Doesn't seem to extend out to Hoi An, but for getting around Da Nang seems to be fine.

Vietnam is no where to ride a motobike for beginners. It’s not the traffic as much as the customs and rules of the road...or lack of them.

When was the last time you were back in the Mekong, Drifter?

Aside from the major roads that the big buses and trucks frequent (or during the few major Holidays), the driving is pretty tame.

Much safer than here in the states.

Cheers,

John
