Which way to travel to AC?

Coming in August from Portland Oregon for concerts. I can't find an "easy" way to get there. Option 1 - non direct flight to Philadelphia, train to AC (unless new bus option with American Airlines works out). Option 2- direct flight to Newark....rent a car to drive to AC? Option 2 is more expensive, but will we want a car to explore the area? We are super into casinos....😄.

Looks like with Option 2 we could also take an Amtrak from Newark?

There's no Amtrak service to AC... or in fact any direct service from Newark. The NJTransit train runs from Philadelphia.

Since you're considering renting a car, have you considered renting a car at PHL?

Not sure how long your visit will be, but exploring both interior and coastal South Jersey with a car would be worthwhile, if you'll have enough time for some day trips.

Oh thanks for the info about Amtrack.

I wasn't considering getting a car at PHL. They are pretty expensive for my dates and we were just expecting to spend our days at the pool and beach. But we would get it from Newark to have an easier travel.....assuming Google is pretty accurate that it is a 2 hr drive.

That may be accurate for a chilly Monday in April but on a summer weekend with a big event going on in AC (your concerts)? I'd aim for 3 hours.

Also, Newark-AC is 120 miles compared to Philly-AC's 65 miles or so. Even with traffic the trip is half the distance from PHL.

Thanks! Of course the drive looks much better from PHL....I was trying to avoid a connecting flight.

>>.I was trying to avoid a connecting flight.<<

Renting a car at EWR and driving down to AC can be a 5-hour ordeal.

Since a connecting flight to PHL is an option, have you looked into flights that connect through to ACY?

For instance, something through Orlando might make sense.
