Hi all, we are planning a 11-day road trip for September. It's our first time to Romania, we're not that big on cities but are keen to explore the countryside and traditional villages. We have done road trips before so used to driving. Would be very grateful to hear your thoughts on our itinerary please:
Day 1 - Arrive into Cluj Napoca. See Cluj.
Day 2: Drive north to Maramures county. Lacul Albustru, wooden churches.
Day 3: Explore more Maramures, Merry Cemetery. Begin driving back south.
Day 4: Sighisoara, then onto Viscri and other little Saxon villages.
Day 6: Drive the Transfagarasan road north to south, stopping off for hikes eg Balea and Capra lakes
Day 7: Begin heading south. Drive to Tulcea in one day (~5hrs) - need to research to find some nice stop offs along way
Day 8: Catch ferry from Tulcea (or hire private boat from Mahmudia) to either Sulina or Sfantu Gheorghe
Day 9: Sulina or Sfantu Gheorghe
Day 11: Fly home
My main questions please are:
-is this too much do you think?
-any recommendations of other nice places to see along the route?
-Should we be doing the route in reverse, ie fly into Bucharest and drive to the Danube Delta first? We don't mind either way.
Thanks so much in advance! We're so excited for our trip.
