Transit Hong Kong International airport

Hi

I am aware that you can go into the city on a long transit layover but can you tell me what the procedure is for leaving the airport?

Much appreciated in advance

There's no special procedure for passengers eligible to leave the airport during transit and assuming you're a UK passport holder no visa is required to enter HK. You'll need complete an Arrival Card, which you'll usually be given on your flight, pass through immigration where you'll be issued a Landing Slip in lieu of passport stamp which HK no longer uses, then baggage reclaim [if your baggage hasnt been checked through to your next destination and customs before entering the Arrival Hall. Then take whatever transportation you decide (bus, train or taxi) into "the city".

If you have a biometric passport you'll be able to use the "Smart Departure" automated immigration clearance procedure when you return to the airport for departure.
