HKGI after cruise

Will be leaving HK after a cruise and flying back to UK. Need to get to HKGI from Kai Tak cruise terminal. Know about checking in at Kowloon to catch airport express but we are in no hurry as its a late flight back. Thought we might spend some time at cruise terminal and wondered if there is a MTR bus that we could get for a leisurely ride to the airport. Bit like sightseeing!!! Or would it be best to check in at Kowloon and travel on from there? Any thoughts welcome.......Thanks

Definitely a good idea to check in at Kowloon Station. You can drop off your luggage (they go straight on to the plane) and go sightseeing. Carry on bags can be kept at the left luggage counter at the station.

There's nothing (AT ALL) in that cruise terminal. Last time I was there, a few months ago, I still had the feeling it's unfinished - it's operating for a few years now. So just get out of there (check for shuttle buses to Kowloon Station - saves the wait for taxis, taxi service also tends to fall in the "nothing" category), get your luggage checked in, and enjoy the city.

There are buses to MTR stations from the cruise terminal, but you're in for several changes dragging your oversized luggage across very crowded platforms and in and out of packed trains. That's just no fun. And there's nothing to see out of the window of an MTR train anyway.

There's not much to do at the cruise terminal. Its shopping mall has been "temporarily closed" since not long after it opened. There are three or four restaurants but not all open on all days. It does, however, have a rooftop park with harbour views;

and also stands next to Kai Tak Runway Park on the site of the old airport runway;
