Best / Safest place on coast to end trip?

Our family of 4 (kids aged 11 and 12) would like to end our Kenyan safari trip on a coast somewhere. With safety being kept in mind, as well as relaxation and cultural immersion, where on the coast would you recommend? I've heard Lamu is more cultural vs. Diani (more relaxation). Are they both safe? Are there other spots you'd recommend instead?

I have not been to Lamu.

North coast (Bamburi, Shanzu and Nyali) and South coast (Diani or Ukunda as it is sometimes called) are very safe for a beach stay. No different to any other holiday resorts.

With kids aged 11 & 12, sometimes the all inclusive resorts are great as they have good activities for the kids, free flow pizza, ice cream, etc.

Have a look at Turtle Bay in Watamu which is quite popular. Near Watamu is the Gedi ruins, plus you have Mida Creek where you can do many activities inc. floating through the mangroves.

Lamu old town is a not what it used to be - quite filthy. Stay in Shella (Peponi Hotel) or Manda Bay. Lots of water based activities, and you don't get beach boys hassling like you do in Diani.
