It will be the amount on the meter, plus tolls, plus 50 baht for the airport taxi surcharge.

Taxi fares have recently increased.

From Suvarnabhumi there is cheap rail service too if the arrival time works out ok.

On this forum there many hundreds of posts for how to get from either airport to the city. Also how to use a METER taxi. Good to do a search first if you need info.

Just in case your "research" skipped this point - you pay taxi drivers with Thai baht cash. No big bills, even coins can be handy in the city.

Good luck.

To Suk soi 18 it should total between 300 and 400 baht including metered fare, airport surcharge, and highway tolls.

300 baht roughly. Pay the meter.

Before you start, don’t ask the driver “How much will it be?” Any acceptance of an amount could be seen as an agreement to an inflated fixed fare.

"Before you start, don’t ask the driver “How much will it be?” Any acceptance of an amount could be seen as an agreement to an inflated fixed fare."

Not an unreasonable conclusion.

Passenger has opened an a negotiation by inviting the taxi to make an offer as to price to take the person to a particular place.

The person can either accept the offer, decline the offer or suggest a different price.

The taxi driver can accept the persons offer, decline the offer or put forward a different price.

This is also how one bargains for a fluorescent pink singlet with a beer brand as well as taxis.

I usually stay on Soi 15/Sukhumvit. The fare that I usually pay is appr 400 baht.

-Know that you will pay the 2 tolls. You hand the driver money, he/she will pay the clerk and give you the change.

-Cash only(as already stated). No credit/debit cards.

-Have the name/address(and phone number) of your hotel in Thai with you......though Soi 18/Sukhumvit is rather easy to find. However, you will probably want door to door service.

-When you exit the airport, get a ticket from the official taxi kiosk. The number on the ticket will be the "slot" that your taxi is in. Go to that slot and jump in and relax!
