Expresss train Rome to Civitavecchia-luggage storage

Hi,

We are planning to catch the express train from Rome to Civitavecchia to board our Cruise ship, and we will have two large suitcases with us. I was looking at the seat allocation on the train, but cannot see anywhere allocated for luggage storage in the compartment.. had hoped to sit close to our bags. If anyone as travelled on this train before, is there space near the wc at the end of the carriage, or are they just kept in the aisle, or the vestibule area before enter the compartment? I don’t want our bags to be in the way and inconvenience other passengers if possible

Thanks

If you mean one of the fast trains where you pay a bit more than the ones that makes more stops, yes, there is plenty of room for luggage. Sometimes the train is not full and you can keep it near you. Otherwise, there is designated space because these trains cover longer distances. The lack of crowding and space for luggage is one of the advantages of paying a bit more to use one of these trains. We have done it for those reasons.

Tracey, are you looking on

http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en

You will see that most of the trains to Civitavecchia are regionale trains.

Views of the inside of a regionale train from 1.30 of https://www.youtube.com/watch…

You will see it's more comfortable and easier to keep bags with you than riding the train to Sydney airport.

You can catch the regionale trains at several Rome Stations: Termini, Ostiense, Trastevere, San Pietro.

You don't have to cope with very busy Termini unless it's the closest for you.

At the end of the video see the way to get from the station to the port in Civitavecchia

There are a few Frecce each day from Termini to Civitavecchia, two of which would work for boarding a cruise ship (11:57 and 13:57). With luggage this is a much more comfortable way to travel to Civitavecchia, but note that you will still have to carry your bags down a full flight of stairs and up the other side to access the station and the street.

Typically there is enough room between the seats on these trains to shove in a suitcase, unless it's huge. If so there is storage at the end of each car. You may want one of you to stand there with it until the train pulls out of the station, since there are no stops between Termini and Civitavecchia on these trains once you're moving it's no longer an issue, no one can get off with your things.

Take note of the time you are set to arrive and get yourself and your things to the end of the car before the train stops, the train is only in the station for two minutes.
