If you are not comfortable driving, use the buses.
You won’t need a car to drive around Ag Georgios/Naxos Town, and there are frequent buses to the beaches of Ag Prokopios, Ag Anna, and Plaka. There are also buses to the mountain villages, but mostly for locals and schoolchildren getting into town in the morning and back home in late afternoon.
There are a few buses to the villages around mid day, so careful planning will allow you to explore the interior and get back to Ag Georgios later in the day. Check the travel agencies to see if coach tours to the villages are still operating in late September.
Thank you. But if I decide to rent a car and go to the other side of the island, would the road be accessible?
Naxos is a mountainous island and many of the roads including the one that goes to the other side of the island are narrow and steep. I love driving on them but you may prefer to take the bus.
Oh I definitely will. Thank you.
Ths album will give you an idea about the island:
Very interesting indeed!
We rented ATVs - smaller one for beaches and bigger one to visit mountain villages. It was our first time to drive ATV on the road and it was easy! We consulted with the rent company on all practicalities and had a map of Naxos town with indicated parking areas and one way streets. Parking near villages was free of charge.
You mean a “quad”?
We did a bus tour - it was crazy how the bus squeezed by tight corners in towns and covered a ton of switchback roads. I really didn't want to drive and the tour covered a ton of the island!
