Uber in Madrid - any good experiences?

I tried using Uber a couple times in Madrid. It got cancelled numerous times by the driver. Once right before he reached me. I gave up and used the taxis which are everywhere. Has anyone had a good experience with Uber in Madrid?

Uber Ian generally viewed as culturally unacceptable to use by locals. Uber is viewed as not paying its fair share of taxes, of paying low wages and not paying social security for its drivers. There are reports in local newspapers that drivers do not get paid every month, work on zero hour contracts, need to provide their own car and in some cases, make so little money that they are forced to live in their cars.

There are few Ubers as a result of this. Taxis are far more common. They also qualify for social security because they are employees. They take home 44% of all fares, way more than Uber drivers.

If you’re visiting Madrid and complaining about Ubers, please don’t as it is a form of unethical travel.

Just so you are clear of the facts on UBER in Spain.

Only two cities allow the use of the service. Madrid and Barcelona.

Both have to use licenced taxi drivers.

Link to Madrid UBER https://www.uber.com/en-ES/cities/madrid/

BCN https://www.uber.com/en-ES/cities/barcelona

It is for you to compare the normal fares in these cities.

Complaints (if any) should be made under Spanish law.

The price is better than a taxi. It depends on how far you go.

If picking up a taxi at the airport you will find a lot waiting for you outside the terminal(s)

I recently used Uber in Madrid to get from our accommodations to Atocha Station. We had no issues with getting a driver. We had to "negotiate" a pick up place since he identified a different spot on a larger street, but that was figured out through the App. He showed up on time and even offered us bottled water. He didn't speak any English and we only knew a few words in Spanish but everything turned out ok!

I appreciate your message and will not use Uber when in Madrid. How's the train from the airport? Easy to use?

Natalia: you service cannot be very good if you have to plug it on this forum - smacks of desperation!

“Uber generally viewed as culturally unacceptable to use by locals”

And the world is round not flat. And Starbucks is here to stay. And the internet too. And penicillin is not black magic.

Uber is amazing. It threatens local taxi businesses because it offers transparency.

Transparency- as in, not getting defrauded by local drivers as a tourist (which I’ve experienced all over Italy and parts of France and Portugal)

Take Uber. Same app. Easy.
