We narrowed down to 2 hotels for our visit this summer: Hyatt and Hilton downtown. Which one would you recommend and why? We are a couple traveling without kids.
Also, are there any attractions that we need to book in advance? Thank you!

I’d go with the Hyatt based on location. Though usually the choice between these two is which points program people belong to…
Attractions in Vancouver to book ahead? Not thatI can think of, but I’ll defer to the locals.
There's a Hilton downtown? I thought the only one was out at Metrotown. Hyatt has been a hingepin downtown forever, kitty corner to the grandaddy of them all, Fairmont Vancouver.
Yes, it’s at 433 Robson Street. Would it be a better location than Hyatt? Nicer hotel?
The Hilton is the old Westin.
Hyatt is in a good postion. Next to the Skytrain, and buses. There is a nice but small shopping mall beneath the hotel. You are within walking distance to most downtown venues. The downside of the Hyatt is that is a nondescript cement building with absolutely no character.
The Hilton is a few blocks away on Robson St. Still in an area that is walkable to other venues. The downside of this hotels is that Robson St in that area seems to getting slightly more homeless people wandering around.
I figured out that the Hilton is the old Westin Grand..near the Library.
If you are committed to one of those two hotels then go with the Hyatt.
It's more central, right beside a rapid transit line. Nicer walk to Canada Place, lots of good restaurants nearby.
The Hyatt is a solid convention hotel (convention you say? what's that? lol) and I've stayed there a few times. I seldom recommend it, not because it's a poor choice, but because I personally prefer hotels that are a bit smaller and have a more personal touch. Staying at the Hyatt always feels to me like staying in the middle of Grand Central Station.
I am of course speaking of pre-covid times. Because it's next to the skytrain, on top of a large food court, adjacent to big business hub towers ( Bentall Center) and always has a lot of tour buses picking up outside it's got a lot of hub-bub. Not a lobby where you meet friends for drinks.
I have never stayed at the Westin Grand ..now rebranded as the Hilton Downtown and I never will. It got reasonable reviews in it's pre-Hilton days as it's a suite hotel that seemed to be used a lot by business visitors and families. I simply do not like the location. It's improved over time with more people living in the area but whenever I walk through there it seems less vibrant. The only hotel I have stayed at and recommend that is on the "eastern" edge of downtown is The Opus.
Can you tell us why you have narrowed to these two hotels? If it's a matter of points then go with the Hyatt. If it's some other particular factor there may be another hotel that suits your criteria better.
For example, if you want a suite hotel then the Sutton Grand Residences can't be beat for location and service. (and yes I've stayed there more than once and have booked it for friends several times)
The Hilton (old Westin) has suites, but as you are traveling without kids, the Hyatt would edge it out for me as you don't really need a suite. Closer to the convention centre and more central. But also only 5-10mins walking between the two hotels.
I chose Hyatt because of the central location, price and it looks nice on the pictures. Is there any other hotel that you would recommend? I am open for suggestions :) restaurants as well. Thank you!
I would not recommend either. The Hilton Downtown is in what has become a rundown part of the city. It is a short walk to the scenic Yaletown Seawall, but there is so much more to do and see than that. The Hyatt is on one of the busiest corners in the city centre. You would not experience that from a room up in the tower, only on the street. It is definitely centrally located with a lot of public transit options.
You might look at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel which is a 4* hotel as well, close to the harbour and the attractions that I expect you have in mind. Quieter overall,
I checked Coast Coal Harbour Hotel , the location is good but isn’t hotel looks a bit less fancy than Hyatt ? :)
