Yes, reasonable, a bit of driving while traveling though, takes a day each way basically to get to the island. Could go to Tofino or Victoria.

Many places are already booked and that is right around the August Long Weekend, so max rates too. Book now and book refundable as who knows what will happen.

Make sure flights are refundable, there are musings about closing provincial borders.

I think your plan is too rushed and you should either choose between Vancouver and a day trip to Whistler, or Vancouver Island.

Easterners underestimate the size of the Island. There is so much more than Victoria.

I think it depends on what your interests are and who all is on this trip. If you are an outdoorsy group - hikers, climbers, etc., then spend your time in Whistler and on the island. If you are urban folks, then spend it in Vancouver, but be forewarned, Vancouver isn't really all that interesting a city - the attraction of Vancouver is the outdoors - water and mountains. Whistler can be a day trip from Vancouver - in the same way Mt. Tremblant is a day trip from Montreal.

Hi sillyguy ~

That is quite an ambitious itinerary for 7 nights/6 days. So, I would say: can be done, but not enjoyable.

Sat, July 31st. Arrive late to Vancouver, stay Vancouver

Sun, Aug 1st. One full day to explore Vancouver

Mon. Aug 2nd. BC Day on the BC Day long weekend. Drive 2 hours to Whistler, all stops extra. Probably a half day and evening to explore Whistler. Stay Whistler.

Tues. Aug 3rd. Explore Whistler, stay Whistler.

Now, consider and decide:

Option 1 >>> Wed, Aug 4th. If you choose Victoria, then 6 hours by car and ferry from Whistler to Victoria on BC Ferries from Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal to Departure Bay ferry terminal near Nanaimo. Stay Victoria.

Thur, Aug 5th. Explore Victoria and surrounding area. Stay Victoria

Fri, Aug 6th,. Travel 4 hours by car and ferry from downtown Victoria to downtown Vancouver on BC Ferries from Swartz Bay ferry terminal to Tsawwassen ferry terminal. Stay Vancouver

Sat, Aug 7th. Fly home.

. . .

Option 2 >>> Wed. Aug 4th. If you choose Courtenay/Comox on Vancouver Island, drive and ferry 5.5 hours from Whistler to Courtenay on BC Ferries from Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal to Departure Bay ferry terminal. Stay Courtenay.

Thur. Aug 5th. Explore the area. Stay Courtenay. If you chose this small community, you would have a number attraction options to choose from.

Comox Valley: https://discovercomoxvalley.com/discover/visit/vancouver-island-visitor-centre/

Courtenay Tourism: https://downtowncourtenay.com/

Comox Air Force Museum: https://comoxairforcemuseum.ca/

Goose Spit Park: https://www.comoxvalleyguide.com/recreation/beaches/goose-spit-regional-park-beach/

Fri, Aug 6th. Head for Vancouver on the Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay ferry. 4.5 hours drive and ferry.

. . .

Option 3 >>> Wed. Aug 4th. If you choose Tofino, drive and ferry 7.5 hours from Whistler via Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay. Stay Tofino

Thur. Aug 5th. Explore Tofino and Ucluelet. Stay Tofino.

Fri. Aug 6th. Head for Vancouver via Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay. Drive and ferry for 6.5 hours to downtown Vancouver. Stay Vancouver.

There are 3 options for how to do Aug 4-6th.

. . .

I think you can see how much time travelling in the car you will spend, as opposed to getting somewhere and exploring that area. You might want to consider 2 locations given the amount of time you have here and split the total number of nights you will have.

Things to be aware of.

The BC Day long weekend has traditionally given Vancouver the Honda Celebration of Lights. 3 nights with one of the three nights being the Saturday night of the long weekend. Then on the Sunday, there has been the Pride Parade. Both events bring a ~200,000 people to downtown Vancouver. No one knows right now if they will be able to present their events.

The ferries will be fully booked on the Friday and Monday and very booked on the other days you will be here. Make reservations 3-4 weeks in advance. You reserve a space on the ferry and then pay the fare when you arrive at the terminal.

www.bcferries.com

On Fri. Aug 6th, if you are returning to Vancouver via the Swartz Bay > Tsawwassen ferry, avoid taking the 13h00, 14h00 and 15h00 ferries. Those will deposit you on the Vancouver side, just in time for the afternoon rush hour. Travel later or earlier than those ferries.

As said, make refundable bookings.

With a ferry reservation, arrive at the ferry terminal an hour ahead of your scheduled sailing to claim your reservation and get in the dedicated reservations queue.

Mufti, thank you for the detailed response.

starting to realize 3 locations might not be possible as a little R&R would be nice :).

So think better splitting between Vancouver and Whistler (4 Vancouver and 2 Whistler) or between Vancouver and the island.

Looking to do some walking and sightseeing hopefully weather and Covid permitting enjoy some adult beverages by the ocean or in the mountains a couple of those days :)

It really depends on what kind of trip you want, but slowing it down a little and just focusing on Vancouver and Whistler makes sense. You could do the island as well if you want a bit of a road trip, or you could do the island instead of Whistler. Lots to explore which ever way you go with this one.
