Vancouver, Victoria or both in 5 days?

We are a couple in our early 60's planning a visit in early October for 5 days.

Is it realistic to visit both Vancouver and Victoria?

What is the best (fastest, easiest) way to travel between the two?

How would you recommend we split the time between the two?

Highlights not to be missed?

If you had to pick one or the other - Vancouver or Victoria?

Any great restaurants, bars or music venues?

Nice hotels?

Ideas? Suggestions for us?

Many Thanks.

Where do you plan to fly in and out of? Is that all you are considering doing? Would you consider flying to one city and out of the other?

If you have 5 nights, 4 full days, you could do 3 nights Vancouver and 2 nights Victoria. Although, you would want to return to your departure airport side of the Strait for the night before your flight out. Or you could just fly out of the other city.

It takes about 4 hours to travel by car and ferry from downtown Vancouver to downtown Victoria. It would take 35 min to fly by seaplane or wheeled plane.

Going to two cities depends on how badly you want to visit both.

Lots of highlights, lots of good hotels, lots of restaurants, bars and pubs. Depends on your budget in CA$, what your interests are and you want to you.

Here are some good planning tips: https://tinyurl.com/y2bmykr6

If you could give us more details and a budget for hotels in CA$, the regulars here could assist better.

In my opinion, both cities are worth visiting. However, if you’re only spending 5 days in total, traveling between both cities taking 4-5 hours each way eats up quite a lot of time. As there’s so much to do in Vancouver, I’d personally prefer staying there and maybe spending one way driving up the Sea to Sky highway.

hi

We gave up on Vancouver at 60+ we now go to Vancouver Island whenever we go to the West Coast. Victoria is a much slower paced city and for a tourist very compact. +as we drive there it is a lot easier to drive around and much cheaper parking with still free parking to be found.

We found the Parkside Hotel on our last visit. They have 1 bedroom suites with a full kitchen with in house spa if you are looking for that. It was competitive with the Best Western which used to be our go to hotel.

If you want BIG city stuff then Vancouver definitely wins on that count; if you want a good split you use Harbour Air to get to Victoria (gives you sight seeing) for 1 night then the www.bcfconnector.com for the ferry ride on the way back. or vice versa depending on weather as you would want a clear day to get some flight seeing. Harbour Air lands in the Inner Harbour in Victoria which is walking distance to many hotels and across from the Fairmont if you have a really good budget.

Lots of ways to split this up, but certainly with five days you can hit two points. Which two is up to you! I think that the ferry is one of the highlights of the trip, and you should do that one way, but using a flight in the other direction (or arranging your flight into Vancouver and then out of Victoria) will save some travel time.

3 days in Vancouver, 2 days in Victoria would do it for me. Best/fastest/easiest would be the float plane that goes from downtown to the Victoria harbour. Would save you a ton of time and give you some great views.
