Parking Help. Gastown or anywhere close to an aquabus stop

Hello Experts. Visiting Vancouver and was hoping someone can point me to an ideal location for "all Day" parking if possible. All day parking is probably equivalent to 10am to 4pm.

Back Story: We have a rental car and will be staying in Burnaby close to Metrotown. My wife and I and 4 kids will be heading to Lynn Canyon early on a Tuesday, late May. After a couple of hours of planned hiking and exploring, we plan on hitting up Lonsdale Quay Market also in North Vancouver for an hour. We planned on taking the Seabus over to DT vancouver and head on over to Gastown. Then head to Granville Island for the rest of the early afternoon.

Here lies my problem. If I read correctly, Lonsdale Quay Market have a 2 hour free parking and max of 3 hour paid parking. Is there any where else I can park for a long period of time? Another option can be the wife and kids take a Seabus while I drive on over to Gastown. I also want to enjoy the aquabus option to Granville so, I would like to find a parking spot close to an aquabus dock, maybe plaza of nations? Please assist. thank you in advance.

I'm not sure all those red dots are valid. There's a construction crane on at least one of them. There is a Pinnacle Hotel at the foot of Lonsdale where you can park all day. It is secure and 100 yards from Seabus. Entrance is from Esplanade St. just east of Lonsdale.

Just a heads up ..Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge is undergoing an upgrade during the month of May and there will be closures. The park is open however...you may want to check the web site before you head out if the bridge itself is a must.

The PInnacle at the Pier underground parkade costs $15 for the day (out by 6 pm.) It is very convenient to the Seabus.

Lower Lonsdale have gone out of their way to make parking around there very difficult. The streets have restricted parking, either 1 hour or 2 hours or no stopping for several blocks around.

I will send you a PM.

Just a tip - I assume you mean Granville Island, given your reference to the Aquabus. It’s always referred to by its full name, Granville Island; “Granville” on its own tends to refer to the street. When someone says “let’s try that new restaurant on Granville,” they mean Granville Street, not GI. Telling you this so you don’t get weird looks or “huh?” if talking with a local!!

Oh no!!!!! The suspension bridge is closed when we are there... Thank you for the heads up Traveller47. We will still head to Lynn Canyon, but focus more on the hike and nature vs. the bridge..

thank you Vancouverite67 and AlegreVancouverBC for parking details in north vancouver. It definitely gives me a better idea of the surrounding areas and where my options are to park... MuftiVancouver, you brought up an excellent point in my Seabus quest with the family. I totally forgot about the compass pass for each individual. Everyone in my party needs a compass pass correct? Or can i purchase 1 compass pass and store enough funds for the whole family? Definitely want the kids to experience the Seabus. @EastBC. yes, I definitely meant Granville Island. I'm definitely a foodie and the kids will enjoy the aquabus experience. Can I also pay for the aquabus fare when I get on or is it better to purchase ahead of time..

Yes

No.

If you're just riding the SeaBus you can also just purchase individual (card-stock) Compass tickets from the SeaBus ticket machines, or SkyTrain ticket machines. You can use one payment to purchase six tickets. You cannot purchase them onboard buses.

You will need a compass pass for each of you or you could also look at the idea of day passes, again 1 for each of you.

Here’s a link to the single fares info from Translink:

https://www.translink.ca/Fares-and-Passes/Single-Fares.aspx

I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out from that page how to get info re day passes

Long before the compass card days one used to be able to buy a book of 10 tix at a discount but I guess that option is no longer around - it would work well in a situation such as yours.

Here’s the info re the two different ferry co’s:

http://granvilleislandferries.bc.ca

https://theaquabus.com

I’m not seeing anything about purchasing in advance on these sites but perhaps I’m missing something.

Ps outside the main Lonsdale Quay market, close to the water, are a few additional stores, one of which is a nice toy store. Perhaps your kids might a souvenir there?

The Lynn Canyon Suspension bridge may not be closed on your visit. Just wanted you to be aware of the possibility. It's a great park with lots to see and do besides the bridge. Right now the is a scheduled closure for May 17, 18 which may or may not change so you could well be able to cross the bridge.

Yes, for transit you will want a Compass TICKET for each person...unless the kids are under 5 in which case they ride free. A Day Pass would probably be your best option if you want to park at Lonsdale and then return. Day Pass is $10 for adults, $7.75 for 18-5

Another option you might consider which will take a bit longer but might be simpler in some ways is to use transit completely for this day.

Start at Metro Town and buy day passes then take the Expo line to Joyce Station. Transfer to the #28 Phibbs Exchange bus Bay 1. Take this to Phibbs Exchange and transfer to the #227 Lynn Valley Centre Bus at Bay 7. Some walking required but not much.

https://tinyurl.com/yawgyage

If you start at 9 am you'll be at Lynn Canyon at 10 am The routing is basically similar to how you would drive.

Once you're done in Lynn Canyon take the #227 back to Phibbs Exchange and transfer to the #239 Park Royal bus and get off at Lonsdale Quay about 1/2 hour bus ride.

Bus drivers here are really helpful so if you ask they will be sure you get off at the correct stop.

Once you've enjoyed all the attractions around the Quay get on the Seabus and travel to Waterfront Station. Get off and walk around Gastown.

Back to Waterfront Station and this time ride the Canada Line to Roundhouse Station/Yaletown. A 10 minute walk to David Lam Park brings you to the Aqua Bus ferry dock. Buy a separate ticket and ride the Aqua Bus to Granville Island ( not part of the transit system)

After your afternoon at Granville Island walk to the entrance of the island to catch the #50 bus to Granville Station. Transfer to the Expo Line and ride back to Metrotown.

https://tinyurl.com/y9ytmjc7

This will save you all traipsing back to Lonsdale to collect your car but more importantly it will save you the drive back across the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge which can be a nightmare during rush hour (actually almost any time these days) The only extra time using transit will be the time to get to Lynn Canyon in the morning. Just a thought.

Total cost won't be anymore than individual fares for all your trips and parking costs.
