Weather in May

Hi, we are headed to Vancouver at the end of May. Possibly doing a day trip to Whistler. What is the weather like at that time of year? We just want to make sure to bring proper clothing if it’s still supposed to be cold in the area. Thank you!

Currently (16:45) 22C (72F) on the waterfront. Warmer away from the water. Warmer at Whistler. Colder at night.

The next 14 day forecast (till May 22) shows sunny weather with the daytime temperature ranging from 14-22 C and nighttime at around 10 C. Vancouverites are already in their Summer-wear since the last couple of weeks.

If its sunny, its quite warm, but rain is not at all unusual this time of year and its a fair bit cooler when its grey and raining.

Bring clothes that you can wear in layers.

Base layer: shirts

Mid layer: fleecy (with hood, possibly for use in Whistler in the morning/evening) or long sleeved T-shirt with sleeveless vest

Outer layer: long sleeved sweater. Waterproof jacket with zipper and hood

Jeans/long pants, capris, shorts

Sneakers (Nike, Adidas type shoes), sandals

Sunscreen

May is so tricky here in Vancouver. For example....today....I wore shorts and a summer sleeveless shirt most of the day, a light hoodie and sweat pants for a forest walk early evening and I just came in from cutting the grass when I wore my heavy hoodie and now at 9:00 it's downright chilly. It really can do many things. As soon as the sun is out it's summer but any breeze or rain in the forecast and it gets chilly pretty fast. Just make sure you have a warm fleece or hoodie and perhaps a waterproof jacket if you plan to be outside a lot. It's tricky!
