Somewhere near Vancouver to haves relaxing break

We are planning a two week stay in Vancouver this summer. We are going to spend a few days in the city at the beginning and end of vacation, but wanted to spend a week or so I the middle, somewhere relaxing but easy to get to from the city (maybe by train). Any suggestions? Ideally somewhere pitcuresque but with some life/restaurants etc.

Thanks in advance

We don't have much in the way of passenger train service. Drive, coach or fly.

Look at some Vancouver Island destinations like the Gulf Islands or Tofino, and the Okanagan towns of Kelowna and Penticton.

hi

the one thing is that once you get there; public transport is really not efficient at getting around to see the tourist attractions so it is a good idea to get a car once at the locations suggested by Vancouverite if you really want to have a good look around.

Vancouver Island (west) destinations are in a temperate coastal climate; the Okanagan is an arid-dessert, it gets real hot, kind of climate but there are over 100 wineries to visit (-:

Just 30 minutes North of Vancouver is Squamish and 30 more from there is Whistler. both are great mountain towns and much easier to relax into than Vancouver.

Whistler is my choice. So many options for diversions. Bus service or an under 2 hour drive. Avis has one way rentals.

The Okanagan might be worth a look, with a rental car. 3 nights, maybe 2 more nights elsewhere in the Okanagan Valley, like Kelowna. Kelowna is close to the Myra Canyon trestles, a former railroad, now a bike path with very little grade. Can consider staying in floating home on Fraser River in nearby Delta or Ladner. Check Airbnb.

If you are willing to travel via boat, then Bowen Island, SaltSpring Island might meet your needs.

+1 for Salt Spring. Take a float plane one direction and a ferry the other.

Note baggage weight restrictions for float plane.

A ferry across to Bowen island or Salt spring is a very good idea , Squamish is a good place to stop too ,But my call would be to go to Whistler. If you go midweek during in the summer it will be reasonably quiet to have a relaxing walk around , you can go on the peak to peak gondola and just generally chill out . We went midweek early October last year and loved it
