rental car companies AT Vancouver Int Airport, any to avoid?

coming 1st weekend in Aug for 4 days. A previous thread said to avoid Budget, and to go with Hertz ... in searching, getting a good price (much cheaper than Hertz) with Avis. Any problems with AVIS?? (hope they aren't affiliated with Budget)

Budget and Avis are part of the same group. I'm unsure what thread you are referring to but as a general rule people have good experiences with both as they do with Hertz, Enterprise, National etc at least nationally.

Budget has a terrible reputation at YVR ... well documented on the forums and in the media.

I usually use either Thrifty or Hertz at YVR. Can't comment on the Avis there, however I don't believe it is owned by the same franchisee who owns the Vancouver area Budgets.

It's unfortunate that Poster #1 made comments about the car rental situation here in Vancouver when he is not aware of the terrible situation with Budget......which is widely known on this Board..

.Countless complaints...lots of negative threads / comments here on TA and class action lawsuits against them.

Avoid Budget all costs.

Any specifics on AVIS @ Vancouver airport??? I know some companies merge, some are independent, and, thus can have very different experinces at difft locations. don't mind spending more to avoid hassles, but early quotes show Hertz $200++ more than Avis for similar rental

Nothing negative about Avis.

It seems I erred. I was unaware of the situation in Vancouver with Budget.

I have had good experiences with both Budget and Avis in Toronto, Kingston and Honolulu

Actually I think I misspoke.

Is Budget at YVR owned by Syd Belzberg? I now remember the stories on CBC years ago.

Yes....but this is Vancouver.

What happens with Budget in Toronto is kind of irrelevant.

Car rental franchises obviously have different owners in different locations.

In Vancouver,, the Budget franchisee is terrible
