Thinking of a quick trip to Guadalarjara (2days). How far is the Tlaquepaque market away from the hotel Morales? Taxi or tour van to the market?

Thanks!

It's quite a distance - best way to get there, IMHO, is on the Tapitio bus from behind the cathedral (which is a few blocks walk from the Morales). This is the open-top tourist bus - you can research it here on TA - which is an excellent price for the day-ticket. You can ride from the cathedral to Tonala - which also has a fine artsy market - then on to Tlaquepaque. Pick up the next Tapitio coming through to return to the city centre.

On the other hand, depending on how many of you, a taxi might be a better price - probably cost you 10 bucks or so.... taxis are very reasonable in GDL. If you haven't stayed at the Morales before... you'll probably LOVE it. Full of character! Get the hotel doorman to confirm the taxi price - so you don't get ripped off.

In addition to the tapatio bus, you can also take the city bus 706-Via 2 from near your hotel to either Tlaquepaque or Tonala and it only costs 11 pesos (about 90 cents US). Bus 616 also does this route and charges 6.50 pesos, but it has more stops. If you can't get the doorman to get you a taxi, or if you're in Tlaquepaque and you want to cab your way back to Hotel Morales, ask a taxi driver, "Cuanto cobra para ir a Tlaquepaque," or for the return,"Cuanto cobra para ir al Hotel Morales?" or "Cuanto cobra para ir al centro?." That way you can be assured of getting the right price. The price should be between 80 and 120 pesos.

In Tlaquepaque, this is my favorite place:

In Guadalajara, there are too many to mention. There is a cluster of good restaurants and bars about 1 mile west of you hotel, along Avenida Chapultepec and Avenida Lopez Cotilla. Closer to your hotel, you'll also find options. If you want a bit of a local experience, try Pipiolo (there are several of these throughout the city).

250-300 pesos. Buy your ticket at the booth by either exit from the airport terminal.
