Gate1 Travel

My husband and I have taken several trips with both OATS and Grand Circle and have been quite happy with them. Have not encountered any of the problems that others have talked about on these forums. However, we were looking at Gate1 Travel for a trip. Has anyone used them or know anything about this company? Thanks in advance for any info you might have.

What is the difference in group size between Gate One classic tours and their Discovery small group tours?

Thank you in advance.

I believe a standard tour has 40 to 42 people While a Discovery tour has 16 to 24 people. I would think it's best to check with Gate 1 as numbers may change based on country and location

My husband and I took a river cruise from Amsterdam to Amsterdam 1 1/2 yrs ago. It was a great trip but there were a couple of glitches. First, I found out the annual floral parade was scheduled to pass by Kukehoff Gardens at exactly the same time our tour was visiting the gardens. I was thrilled and researched the relevant information and notified Gate I Travel of the event and that our bus would need to be inside the parking lot by 1:30pm as all roads would be closed for the parade. Gate I's representative condesendingly replyed that the guides would have it in hand...NOT! We arrived after 2:00pm, drove around the countryside looking for a back-road entrance and we finally entered at 4:00pm, The guide and company were totally clueless. When I tried to reach someone in a management position to express my dismay, NO ONE WOULD RETURN MY CALL

The second glitch was concerning our traveling companions. They paid $80.00 extra to be met at the airport and escorted to the ship the morning of departure. They were given exact directions as to where to meet the driver for pick-up. There was NO ONE to meet them. Several airport employees tried to help them but no one could be found. Our companions are world travelers and very exacting in following directions. When they got to the ship they reported the incident to the proper person on board. The representative was quite dismissive and told them they'd look into the matter. She never contacted them during the entire cruise. The day before disembarking, our companions approached her again. She advised them that there was someone at the airport to meet them and it was their fault that they had not been where they were supposed to be....again, NOT TRUE. ( I believe that the meeting place changed sometime after they were told where to meet and someone forgot the advise them of the new location.) They were extremely disappointed with how they were treated. After returning home they tried to contact Gate 1 to resolve the issue, Gate 1 didn't even give them the curtesy of a response, even after our travel agent tried to contact someone at Gate 1. ( She also got no response.) I would be very cautious about traveling with them again as things go wrong when you're traveling and you want to be able to trust your travel company to handle problems that crop up in a professional manner. The people that handled both of these incidents were quite poorly trained and management needs to be responsive to their customers concerns.

We have had nothing but great experiences with Gate1 after five trips with them, including one 14-night river cruise. In fact, we are leaving next week for a 66-day RTW trip using five Gate1 tours along the way (Italy, Morocco, Vietnam, India and Thailand) - that's the level of trust we have in them.

I have booked several trips with them and my clients have loved them. Everything goes smoothly with them and I think the prices are great. I wouldn't hesitate to book with them again.

Did Ireland with them in 2016 and was pleasantly surprised how well it went. This tour included Northern Island which was extremely worthwhile. Tour guide was fantastic!

Dear mummi8, the best way is to look up Gate 1's website, https:/…ERC-2018-RHINE-CRU. Good luck.
