Mid October in US?

We will be celebrating our 20th anniversary in mid October it would like to go somewhere in the US. We’ve been to Hawaii a number of times and have been up and down the west coast (we live in the Bay Area). We enjoy spending time in nature, dining, art/culture and maybe a spa day. We are not snow people and only so-so on the desert. Mountains and lakes sound nice and maybe some fall color. Want to avoid snow- so not sure where that would limit us to they time of year. Was considering Colorado or Salt Lake City area…but open to any and all suggestions!

In the north east of the country, The New England states are well known for their fall colour …

“Mountains, lakes, fall colour” will be found there

Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island

But, How far away are you planning to go?

Is this a road trip, or are you flying?

Weather information is very quick and easy to find online 24/7 by doing a Google search… you can easily find out if/where, there might be snow in mid Oct ( doubtful except for high Elevation mountains)

The places you mentioned, Salt Lake City, etc would work too

Santa Fe, NM would satisfy art, natural beauty and great food. You could also include a drive to Bandelier National Monument, a drive up to Taos, stopping in Chimayo to see the famous chapel, and maybe visit Georgia O'Keefe's home in northern NM. https://www.okeeffemuseum.org/homes/, all depending on the time available. There's a wide range of accommodations; I'm sure several of them would includes a spa.

Taos offers the home of Kit Carson, the Millicent Rogers Museum and the famous Taos Pueblo, among other attractions.

One of the most enjoyable and educational travel adventures we (family) experienced in was to Rhode Island. There are several Mansions that are open to the public. 5 are part of the group of preservationists. Two are still independently owned by family. One is Astor, the other most recent is Duke. At the time of my visit, Astor in order to obtain income, had a murder mystery night. Actors who live at the mansion dress as 19th century servants. You are walked through many of the rooms for clues. At the end you are brought to the large ball room where the murderer is revealed. Great fun! Happy travels!

New England is glorious in most of October. But since that is peak tourism time, it can be difficult to get lodgings in the most often-named places.

Someone mentioned Rhode Island -- which is a (small) state, but it sounds like they were mentioning Newport, Rhode Island. This is a really fun, pretty, and historic town to visit. Maybe a trip to visit both Newport, RI and Boston, MA?

But I will admit that my only trip to New Mexico to Santa Fe - was in October one year. Absolutely loved it. Weather was mild or warm in the day, cool at night. The town is quite small although you do need a car, pretty much. The leaves of the trees turn a little bit, and it feels like fall.

Can’t go wrong with the previous sentiments! Something magical re the dry “desert” in autumn, and New England? You betcha.

Does your “ca” stand for California or Canada btw? Always wanted to make a return to PEI/Atlantic Canada in October.
