We booked a dinner at San Lucas many months in advance once reading about it online. It did not disappoint! We were able to sit in our glass box high up on the hill and watch a fabulous sunset while dining on Costa Rican influenced fine dining. The service was excellent and the food was tasty. Our favorites were some local Monteverde cheeses that our waiter Carlos, kindly told us how to obtain and our first tres leche for dessert, although all the desserts were excellent! Oh and we loved the appetizer “taco” and the sorbet course as well! All in all not a night we will forget anytime soon!

First off, a special thank you to Dilan for providing incredible service. Really wonderful! As a lot of the same things have been said about this place, so I wanted to talk about going with small kids. We have a 5 year old that [1] eats like a bird and [2] can be impatient at times when dining out. As such, I was a little hesitant to [1] pay $55 for the 20 cents worth of pasta she would surely consume, but [2] also several hundred for my wife and I's. However, knowing this was such a unique restaurant we decided to go for it. And I am really happy we did. I've never been to a restaurant that took such good care of our daughter. They brought her a special unicorn blanket for her to use, coloring activities, balloons, suprises, involved her in games and more. They helped her stay entertained the entire time. Granted we were there on a slow night (due to the COVID situation) so I'm sure that when it's full, they may not be able to spend as much time with each table, but in any case, they really made sure we could all enjoy the full experience. So if you're hesitant to go with small kids, don't miss this place. It's well worth it! Can't wait to go back whenever we can. Few notes for the restaurant itself... [1] my wife couldn't eat the lamb as it was soooo tough (the flavor was great, but it was leather though). Dilan did offer to bring something else and the rest of the food was great, so we didn't care. But now I see several other people have commented on the lamb here. Not sure why you're still running it? Or if you're set on lamb, why not braise it or do something else? [2] the idea of the surprise box is really neat. Love that. The timer though...not so much. I get that you only 5 tables, and can't have people hanging around hours on end as you need the space for the next guests, but the timer made me feel like we were on a schedule which isn't great when you're trying to have a wonderful experience. [3] for such a well thought out place, the parking is super confusing. A couple of signs would go a long way

To enjoy the full uniqueness of Monteverde no trip would be complete without a tree-top gourmet experience dining at the top of the canopy. At San Lucas no detail is left untouched. Each table is in its own glass cube, so protected from the unpredictable weather but perched on a steel frame. The frequent high winds mean the branches next to you sway wildly and your cube does shudder in the gusts but if you are happy with a bit of aircraft turbulence it’s not a problem. Dinner is a 7 course extravaganza, each one produced with ceremony and a full explanation. The chef has cleverly put a twist on local dishes and every one is beautifully presented. The sea bass tiradito and the lobster were amazing and the delicious trio of puddings arrived in their own special wooden box. The service was impeccable and the enthusiasm and professionalism of the staff made it an unforgettable experience.

Someone else made this reservation and I thought the concept (private, suspended in treetop dining sounded hokey. It wasn't. The dining area was very private and quiet; the service was excellent by any standard and the food was great. Not a lot of menu choices (made in advance), but enough for any palate. Our several servers all communicated with each other so our preferences were well known. Also surprising, the prices were very reasonable for Costa Rica standards. I would recommend this to anyone.

Friendly waiters get to present you a 7 course meal with local ingredients and explanation of where the inspiration for the meal comes from. Enjoy delicious flavours from all around Costa Rica in a very romantic glass box all atop the canopy, shielding you from winds and cold weather. We both enjoyed our meal very much and this is the type of fine cuisine that is hard to find in Costa Rica, without forgetting the setting that is breathtaking.

This dinner came highly recommended to me by a friend who had dined here before. Now I would be thrilled to pass this recommendation on to others. The experience is incredible, from beautiful views inside an exclusive glass tree house, to delicious food, to deletable handmade cocktails added to the farm to table menu. The waiters are all very friendly and knowledgeable and help make the experience that much better. They even have blankets for when it's a bit chilly out. I will definitely be going back there my next time in Costa Rica!

Dining at San Lucas was one of the highlights of my trip to Costa Rica. The setting is absolutely stunning, especially if you take the 5:30pm booking and experience sunset from your glass-enclosed pod in the treetops. I loved the feeling of being up in the treetops, especially when the pod swayed in the wind, and this was perfectly complimented by the lighting and music. Carlos and Dylan provided amazing service. The food was very good, some dishes better than others, but all are introduced and explained well. It was some of the best food that I’ve had in Costa Rica, but if I was paying $88 for the food alone I would have been disappointed. The setting absolutely makes this place and I finished the night a happy guest with a wonderful memory of Costa Rica.

Dining here is an incredible experience with an amazing setting. As we walked down the walk way above the trees we could not help but noticing the flickering lighting carefully placed around the walkways, and near the 5 tables. The restaurant only seats you if you have a reservation. With that being said they email you the menu and you pre -order certain courses. They also take into consideration dietary issues. Once seated the experience begins. It is a 7 course meal. That one would expect in a 5 star restaurantin New York City . Here we are in the middle nowhere. If you can get Carlos as your server do so. He is a young man who is one of the best server's we have ever had. He is personable, attentive and knows his job. As we went through each course the wind blew the trees swayed around us but we didn't budge. It does get cool and they do provide blankets if you would like. There is a bar that opens at 6:00 pm. It is a little pricey. My husband and I each had a drink the bill came to about $100 per person without a tip. This was a memorable experience. We are so glad we did it.

Prior to our trip, I was just as excited about dining here as any other experience in our plans. And it was worth the anticipation - it wasn't just a dinner, but an experience! As soon as you arrive, you know you're in for an amazing night before you even sit down! We've enjoyed dining in amazing facilities in our travels all over and this setting blew them all away! They are very accommodating with the set menu to adjust to vegetarians, vegans, and pescatarians but we were thrilled with the "normal" menu. The chef creatively developed each course to reflect some aspect of Costa Rica, both with the ingredients and also the visual equally represent the country. Usually, I don't care for doing a wine-pairing (opting to pick my own wines) but went with it here because each course was too varied to get two or even three bottles of wine. We were NOT disappointed by the decision to go with the pairing ... each wine was perfect with each course's specific flavors and were of tasty quality. For many budgets, this MIGHT be deemed as a bit pricey but for what we got, the outstanding quality of it, and the magnificent setting, it was truly worth it. And if you are a foodie, you HAVE to go here!

The beautiful and unique setting in the trees overlooking Santa Elena in your own private glass box only added to the experience. The real star of the show was the service provided by the staff. Lucas, Carlos and Dilan made us feel like VIP and family at the same time. The cocktails (especially the chiliguaro) were on point and all the food was delicious. Each presentation was perfect, Kevin the chef came out and flambeed our entrees before delivering. Altogether amazing experience you won’t be able to find elsewhere.

It was a cold, wet, and windy night up in the trees but the excellent wait staff, delicious food, and soft fleece blankets made for a warm and pleasant experience. I must admit that ordering our food at the time we made our reservation online was a bit odd but once we saw how much effort went into the preparation and artistic presentation of our seven course meal, we understood why this might be necessary. This is not the kind of place you go to often but for people who appreciate food as art and learning a bit about Tico culture while savoring unique flavor combinations, the experience will always remain. Dining in the tree tops within a private glass room cantilevered over the forest canopy might not be for everyone ( acrophobic types be aware) but for us it was a wonderful, memorable evening.

We had dinner here while staying in Monteverde. We made a last minute reservation online. The seating is in your own private room that is essentially a glass box in the trees. We loved the chiliguaro cocktail and cheese plate especially. We tried both soups and the lobster and steak and they were all great. The service was fantastic. The rooms are not climate controlled because you are outside in the trees, so you will want to bundle up if it’s cold (and they have blankets for you as well)! I thought the meal was appropriately priced for the experience but the cocktails we added were a little pricey.

We found San lucas randomly on Google, and I'm so happy I made the decision to have dinner here. This meal isn't cheap, but I do strongly feel that both the quality of the food, the customer service received from every person we encountered, and obviously the views, it was 100% worth the money. You're in your own little canopy room, which makes dining especially covid friendly. Thank you to the San lucas team for such a great experience. đź‘Ť

During our trip to Costa Rica, we wanted to try at least one high end restaurant including local flavors. When I found the San Lucas online, we had to try it. It's really a whole experience. The food was amazing. They use a lot of locally grown food and everything has a Costa Rican twist to it. The plats seem big, and you might worry that you'll have a hard time getting through all the courses, but you won't. The staff were amazing. Our waiter's name was Carlos, and he made the evening that much better. And of course I have to mention the view. What's cooler than having a fine dinning experience in the jungle canopy overlooking the town... just amazing.

We were staying at Chira Glamping and had our first dinner at San Lucas. This meal was so special and each aspect was very localized to tell the story of Costa Rica. The service was impeccable and the timing was the perfect speed to enjoy all 7 courses. Our bill for two (juices for him, 1 glass of wine for me) was under $200 USD.
