Too much expensive considering what you get. Meat is quite good not exceptional, side dishes are poor, house wine is good.

We had a very bad experience with this restaurant. At the core of it was a Steak Fiorentina (aka T-Bone steak) on the menu that we had asked some questions about and looked at with interest. The restaurant charged by weight so we had asked...which sizes were available. The waitress informed us that the smallest was 1kg. Being two people this was on the high end (weightwise) but we decided to order this one. When the bill came they had charged for 1.3kg. We pointed this out by they claimed that the weight references were proximate and since the steak had been consumed by then, it was hard to establish the weight after the fact. I did not feel or look like anything more than 1kg, but this is a hard and difficult call to make after the fact. What is important is what is communicated and agreed. Despite our objections and the waitress´ admission that it was her fault, the owner / manager refused to take the extra off the bill and behaved very rudely. At euro 65 this was a very expensive steak and very big steak they had chosen to serve for two people. I had noticed during the ordering that the waitress was big on upselling. The steak came with potatoes, and given its size and our proscuito starter there was certainly more than enough food. Had we followed the waitress´ recommendations and suggestions for the number of starters and side dishes, it would have been a completely bizarre serving size. I would add that I have lived for years and travelled extensively in Italy and I can say with conviction that the Italians themselves are not big eaters. For Italians it is in no way conventional to gorge in such a fashion. With the overcharging issue in mind this left a bad feeling when seen as a context for the subsequent billing. I had two kinds of wine by the glass. One pinot nero (pinot noir) that was borderline sour but drinkable with the meat, and one glass of cabernet sauvignon which was acceptable but nothing special. This restaurant is basically in the Friuli wine area, which ,though focused in whites, have remarkable and very drinkable red wines (as does Italy). This was not at an acceptable level. The side dishes and starters were not at a good level. The local proscuito (ham) would be the reason to stop in this village, but it was really not impressive. The vegetable sides and salads were uninspired to say the least. The restaurant has live fire cooking which was appealing and cosy. Nonetheless, I would describe this best as a tourist trap that does not treat outside guests well at all. Our experiences in Udine were of a different and much higher level and I would advise to chose eating here over this example of a San Daniele restaurant. The problems with the price level, the quality of the ham and the service level that we had was also picked up in reviews before. I only noticed this after our visit as we had relied on its inclusion in the Michelin guide. Of course Michelin does not heap any praise on it such as bib gourmand or star, while also callling it a “simple standard”. But inclusion in the Michelin guide is normally, in my experience, a guarantee for a minimum level that was not met here.More
We called in for lunch two days ago. The place is not too big, spotlessly clean and just a few tables were occupied. The prop. met us and discussed with my Italian companion the dishes of the day. We enjoyed a light lunch which was...obviously freshly prepared. Prices were not low but the quality was good and what you would expect from a local restaurant serving local specialities. Call in - you'll enjoy it.More
Nice and friendly restaurant with local food. Food was good and tasty, but prices are a little above mid range. Meat dishes were tasty, fresh prepared and grilled in front of you, but the price of prepared grilled beef steak was overestimated (30€), nevertheless the...prices are per 100 g (7.5€ per 100g). Side dish for a meat course was poor and also too expensive. Waiter was too fast to collect empty plates and that was a little annoying for having time to enjoy environment between courses. Prices of pastas were acceptable (10€) and they have interesting choices of vegetarian and non vegetarian local based pastas and risotto. Deserts are a must, taste chocolate cake filed with hot cream.More
great choice if you do not wish to go out from the hotel which is linked to this hotel; the food is great, a good choice and home made; the wine is also great, I recommand the red Cabernet Sauvignon home made one... really perfect!...A bit epensive but the quality of food, drinks and service is worth any cent!More
Very Nice atmosphere, friendly owner And Staff. Perfect Food with enough variety. Just ask The chef for Some suggestions, eating outside possible
I stopped there for what it was supposed to be a quick lunch; instead, I ended up enjoying one of the best meals ever. For a starter we got porcini freschi (if it's on the menu, don't miss it), then a platter of San Daniele...ham (which was a bit under expectations to tell you the truth), then a delicious tagliata di manzo, and last but not least a platter of various local cheeses - among which a superlative 8minths cured Montagna. :)More
The service was very friendly. The food was oke but not special.
The service was slow on a rather unbusy friday but the quality of food made up for this. The staff was very friendly. We sat inside becuase the outdoor garden area was a bit smoky from the cigarette smokers. We started our meal with a...plate of San Daniele ham which they sliced in the dining room so the customer can see how fresh it is. My friend had a nice taglietini with ham in a cream sauce. They made a lovely pasta ragu for my son. We did have to ask for the cheese but no problems getting the grated cheese. I had lovely ravioli with ham and asparagus in a buttery sauce (hard to worry about calories on vacation). My son got a vanilla gelato which he did not care for because there was a strong caramel note to it (my son called it coffee flavoured). The ice cream quality did not match the rest of the meal.More
Cristina, Franco and the others who work there are so knowledgeable, They would help formulate what we ate since we weren't sure(we wanted to try everything) and Cristina went by how hungry we were. We shared plates, prosciutto of course, headcheese, local mushrooms, lasagna, beef,...duck which we watched cook on the huge fire sort of in the center of the restaurant. Everything, I mean everything we ate was phenomenal, and the house wines were superb and local. Prices were reasonable and we knew we hit a good place because everyone else there was a local. We loved the place so much we came back 3 weeks later and took pictures(unable to access them here). I love this place and can't wait to go back again!More
One of the finer restaurants in San Dan. Excellent seasonal dishes with a nice selection of grilled meats. Very pricey, but if you want to eat well or impress, this is the place. The service can be trying at times, but not unprofessional.
