This little restaurant is situated a very short walk up hill from the Canal. It doesn't look to flash from the street but push on and you would have to be very fussy not to enjoy the food, the atmosphere and the staff. It was highly recommended to us and we highly recommend it to you as so many travelers have. Great menu, great wine selection and chatty staff.

If you are looking for genuine top quality French cooking do not go anywhere else. We visited Friday evening whilst cruising down the canal du midi and it was so good we stayed and had lunch on Saturday as well. Friday evening the lamb was exceptional and on Saturday lunch the cassoulet was even better !!! Special thanks to the waiter Gwenda who helped with the food and wine selection and was a pleasure to chat with . I would fly back from uk to castelnaudry just to eat here again. First class in every way keep up the excellent work

Stayed overnight in Castelnaudary just to eat this dish in its home town. Chez David was recommended. Even though we felt the price was steep at 30E each, we LOVED it and will certainly recommend his version. We were given 'sporks' as our utensils, very amusing and clever too!

Well, judging by today’s experience not in Castelnaudary. The one I had in Carcassonne was very much nicer. Today, both the duck and the sausage were overcooked and dry, the duck to the point of being unpleasant. A great disappointment given the other reviews. Service was OK but when I went up to pay, the man behind the bar was not wearing a mask despite the legal requirement to do so.

cassoulet recommended by friends… we traveled 150km to test it. the reception is good. the ritual (recited) of presenting the cassoulet cooled us down a little; “Aoc beans, rind to thicken the juice, homemade confit and gratinated with the proteins that rise…” … apart from the confit pork which was good, the sausage was ordinary and the duck confit was frayed and unflavored. plus the quantity was insufficient (just a small thigh!). upon tasting we can say that the beans were perfect. for the price we expected better meat and at least a little garlic salad on the side… At the checkout it seemed to us that the boss had a bit of a big head with a self-confident speech saying that people came from very far away to taste his cassoulet... in conclusion yes they are the best beans but by no means the best cassoulet….

Look no further, this is the best cassoulet! Cool atmosphere, fast and efficient waiter who explains perfectly, while serving us the spoonfuls of cassoulet, the stages of production which make this dish a success. 6 hours of cooking, we understand the result of the meat which melts in the mouth. The beans are tender and juicy, the meat is quality. We were gladly accepted with our baby doll in a stroller at the lunch service, but I advise you to make a reservation because it fills up very quickly. The Chef is very friendly, and exchanges a few words with each customer. It's very nice. Ps: the frozen cassoulet is also a great discovery.

We were so excited to go back to Chez David after our last visit over a year ago. And they did not disappoint: this little restaurant serves quite simply the best Cassoulet in Castelnaudary (and in the States, too, it seems!) The Cassoulet is divine, the servings are lavish, the wine is perfect, the desserts are as gorgeous as we remembered and the team are so friendly and as impassioned as ever. Merci beaucoup, see you again soon

We went to this restaurant because of the many favourable reviews of the cassoulet served here. We both had the fois gras starter which was good. I had the cassoulet and the reviews were correct it was one of the best I have eaten, excellent flavour to the broth, beans properly cooked and full of duck, pork and sausage! My wife chose the duck breast , it was ok but not great and needed a sauce to bring it to life.

Some people think that Chez David's cassoulet is the best in Castelnaudary. It's possible. Delicious, well peppered, digestible and gratinated without breadcrumbs. However, the portion of meat is disappointing: a piece of sausage, a small piece of port rib and an amputated confit duck leg. No rear thigh. Lots of beans, but it's light for €30. A few years ago, I went to Petit Gazouillis and I saw that this year, for €27 we had a gizzard salad and a cassoulet with two confits. And this confit was really good too, and plentiful in memory... To know...

An impromptu lunch break. We were lucky enough to get a table for two, after we were full!! Book!!! Friendly welcome in an old stone setting. Lovers of cassoulet in restaurants and at homestays, the cassoulet at “Chez David” is excellent. The flavors of each of its ingredients: sausage, confit, pork, bullion, rind and gratinée are succulent.

It's true that it's difficult, when you come to Castelnaudary, to decide on a Cassoulet restaurant, because there is so much on offer. We opted for “Chez David”! And, we have never eaten such an excellent Cassoulet. A pure marvel, made with local, excellent products, and all with explanations from the staff. Frankly, we had a memorable culinary moment in a place we like, namely a restaurant on a human scale, that is to say 30 seats. Fortunately we had reservations because it was full, and the Cassoulet simmers for 6 hours in this restaurant. Recommended with your eyes closed.
