A beautiful place in an old monastery, the fish dishes are excellent, the waiters very friendly. You can sit outside right in front of a small and lovely bay.

Had an excellent meal sitting at the harbour edge. Busy but service still very good and excellent value. On a further occasion I ordered carryout as staying nearby. Slow to get the food but was given the time so was able to call back when...ready. Surprising varied menu, not just pizza. I had swordfish for example.More

I booked a table here for dinner but there was no need as it was very quiet. Enjoyed the location in the small Harbour and food and wine were good.

Went here as recommended by our accommodation host. Nice service, nice location. They did get my wine wrong, but that was not a great concern to me. Food very basic, and probably priced a great deal higher than the quality as other reviewers have stated....However, 3rd meal since arriving in Polignano a Mare and they have been all underwhelming and sub standard service. Hope to find better soon.More

Good location, Terrible service, long waiting, unpatient staff, food is not really good, but regarding pasta pomodoro.. well it is the worst we have ever eaten. We have to avoid this kind of places and maybe they study that they are for guests, and guests...are for them.More

The staff seemed to be preoccupied with everything but serving us. We had to get up to order drinks ourselves, 30 minutes after sitting down I got up to ask if we could order, the guy in charge yelled at his staff in front of...me and the other 2 tables. Finally after 75 minutes after sitting down we finally got our food...and it was very good. Doesn’t compensate though for the front of office. There are other options take them.More

We were staying at Vilu Suite just along the road and walked down one evening for dinner. The food was wonderfully Italian and the atmosphere casual. Gorgeous setting in the small harbour with all the brightly coloured fishing boats rocking gently in front of us....It was magical. Although sitting outside in summer is a must, take a look inside! You will be in for a treat including seeing the old olive pressing wheels! I can’t explain it in words - you will just have to see it for yourself!! This restaurant supports young people who may have some disadvantages in finding mainstream work and clearly the culture was that of encouragement and empowerment. We were so well looked after and these people work extremely hard to ensure a great customer experience.More

We were staying at Vilu Suite (see review) for a few nights and Locanda dei Benedettini was recommended. It did not disappoint. The pizza was great and well priced. Great atmosphere as there was a number of locals eating their dinner there (always a good...sign). If you are around, stop in for a pizza if nothing else. Enjoy!More

Had lunch here took half hour to get served even though they had brought the bread ad cutlery no drink offered. We eventually ordered two tagllione with prawns and a bottle of water and a glass of wine. When the food came it was excellent...really tasty but it took so long to come that we had eaten all the bread. The plates were taken when we had finished and it took another 45 mins for them to give us the bill after asking in Italian four times fir the bill. We noticed that the Italian family of six got served before us even though we had been in the restaurant for 20 mind they also paid before us after getting there bill immodestly. We also noticed a family of four English were also having trouble getting there bill and the man was becoming quite cross. So food good service none existent and not cheap either for lunchMore

In the basement of a beautiful Abbey, on the beach, pizza or local food, cheap. Friendly service and gorgeous atmosphere, better during the day and outside.

We were on our way to Polignano again when we saw a sign for San Vito & decided to visit & it was well worth the trip . It is a beautiful little fishing village and the seafront is mainly fabulous volcanic rock , but...there are some little sandy beaches . We stopped for lunch & just had Ham & Mozzerella with bread & drinks & the view was bellissimo . The staff were very helpful & the restaurant inside was huge & looked perfect for a delicious meal . We ate outside at lunchtime & enjoyed the views .More

We stumbled upon this place quite by accident. San Vito is a small fishing village near Polignano a Mare in Puglia. It has four restaurants in the harbour. La Locanda dei Benedettini is in an old nunnery smack in the middle of the village near...the fishing boats. It has a large terrace that we just could not resist. We ate there three nights in a row, addicted to the ambiance, the view, and the spectacle offered by the staff. This is a pizzeria, and, not surprisingly, their pizzas are excellent. The other food is good but not spectacular. Several antipasti and pastas come with mussels, and seafood is the focus of the non-pizza menu. We sampled several Puglia wines during our visits and agreed that the 12 e mezzo primitivo was one of their best selections. The waiters and waitresses gave us hours of entertainment, Mr. Bean style. The head waiter, il capo, is a bit of a dictator who frightens the others. Some waiters way down the hierarchy are only allowed to remove plates. Each of the seven or eight waiters (for a terrace that has 15 tables) probably logs in three miles a shift on their FitBits. We had a ball watching it all unfold. We fell in love with this magical place. After one last primitivo bottle, perhaps one too many, all my credit cards and my drivers license dropped out of my shorts. I only realized my loss the next morning. And yes, the management had retrieved them and kept them safe for me. I was ready to kiss the owner.More

Walked here from Polignano which was a stroll of about 90mins. sat outside with a beer late morning. Friendly staff. Lovely ambience with a pleasant view of the little harbour. Spotless toilets and I wished we had been there at a mealtime. It looked lovely...inside tooMore

I dont know where to begin. The location ? The ambiance ? The food ? I visit Italy every 2 years or so. I stay in a town called Mola di Bari, which is a 20 minute drive south to this slice of heaven. Its...a converted olive oil factory with vaulted ceilings. You have a choice of eating inside or outside. I chose eating outside. Wow....Simply wow. The staff is attentive. If you want a suggestion they'll give it to you and no matter what they suggest its the right answer. I had a light dinner. You can start with the usual area staple, raw mussles drizzled in olive oil and fresh parsley. I did and it was incredible. I then had the Calamarata. Hands down the best pasta dish I've ever had. Its a fish dish with chunks of swordfish so delicious you want to eat the plate its served in. Then went onto some fried baccala & calamari. You can tell the difference when fresh ingredients are used. Especially when food is fried in olive oil. I'm red wine drinker but the white wine served was a wise choice. They serve pizza but the oven was turned off for the night. Soooooooo, the next time I come here I will have the pizza in addition to whatever else I eat. The scenery is incredible if your eating outside. Even though there is a road passing in front. There were few cars if any that passed. Feet away is the ocean filled with small fishing boats and silence except for the relaxing cool breeze that floats by like the whiff of the food cooking in the kitchen. I went here after the summer festivities were over so the crowd was much smaller then the usual summer crowd. Street parking but its hard to find when its crowded. If your in the "puglia" area and you want a really really good meal. DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE. For couples traveling without children. Romantic, Romantic, Romantic.More
