This is a wonderful upscale restaurant in the small town of Springdale, UT. If you are looking for a beautifully decorated restaurant that provides high quality food and a superb wine list you won’t go wrong booking a reservation at Switchback Grill. We ordered a NY steak and meatloaf, soup and salad and two glasses of Charles Krug Cabernet Sauvignon ($14/glass). Total bill excluding tip <$170.00. Much less than some of our high end restaurants in our hometown of Las Vegas.

Often in a small, touristy town, you DON'T get what you typically pay a premium price for. This was not the case with Switchback Grille and Trading Co. Admittedly, with "Grille" in the name and being in a small town, we weren't expecting much and even less when we walked in and saw a large gift shop. It was saying "tourist trap" a bit at that point. However, we were caught in the middle of a torrential downpour without many other options in the immediate vicinity, so we decided to try it. We'd walked out once when the grumpy and flustered guy at the front desk (dare I say maître d') said he couldn't seat us for a good 45 mins despite the place not being super busy on a Sunday night. I know...I know...COVID-19 and all, but he never even offered up seats at the bar, and there were plenty. Caught in the rain, we decided to return and ask about the bar, after which we were promptly shown to two socially distanced seats at the end. Great! All negative thoughts were quickly dissolved when we were attended to by the fabulous Katie, bartendress extraordinaire! She made our night! It was the last night of vacation for my partner and I, so we wanted to do something somewhat special. Katie was warm, engaging, funny, and the best server! She was flying solo at the bar yet managed to make each guest feel as if they were her only concern, while also attending to the adult beverage needs of the entire restaurant. She rocked it! The steaks, salads, and sides were prepared to perfection (7oz filet mignon, wedge salad, roasted beet salad, roasted potatoes, and sauteed mushrooms). The house-made banana bread pudding for dessert was heaven. All of that accompanied by a decent wine list (we had a fantastic Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley, OR) make this a place a must when in Springdale, UT…just make sure you arrive with a hefty appetite and your wallet! It's not an inexpensive meal but we didn't feel cheated at the end either. Special thanks again to the AMAZING Katie for making our night one to remember as we capped our vacation and headed home to San Francisco the following day.

The Switchback is a higher end steak restaurant, serving a nice variety of beef cuts plus other selections of pork and a featured fish item, probably flown in fresh that day. We found the service rather slow, drink orders taken but delivered about 15 to 20 mins. later. Be aware that sides are large and intended to be shared. The bread has a unique dipping sauce, butter is available upon request.

Our waiter was kind, but my husbands steak was cooked incorrectly 3 times. He asked for his $47 steak to be cooked medium. Two times it was brought to our table rare; in fact the waiter agreed. After that the manager came out, made us to feel that we were in the wrong. When the third steak came out, the manager brought it out with a flashlight and peered over my husband cut it. At that point my husband accepted it, but still couldn’t eat about a 1/3 of it because it was still bleeding. In the mean time my meal was basically cold. The manager was rude and offered POOR service. Do not go unless the manager is fired!

This place looks like a nice restaurant. But that is as far as it goes. This dumpster-fire provided our family of 8 with an underwhelming experience , an indifferent and unhelpful waitress, and left us utterly unhappy at best, ready to flip the table Jesus style at worst. Our waitress had short black/grey hair and seemed unwilling or unable to do her job properly. When asked what kind of fruit comes on the cheesecake- she said “I don’t know - an assortment” with the enthusiasm of a log. Getting drink refills was an act of Congress , steaks were undercooked, and the general attitude of the staff was that of a disgruntled McDonald’s cashier. The only person that was happy with their dinner was a 9 year old with very low standards. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. If I had not been with people who wanted to avoid conflict and just get out as fast as possible, I would’ve spoke with manager. I’m not sure if that would’ve changed anything. It was the worst part of our trip experience thus far! .

Went into Switchback looking to enjoy a good steak. We didn't realize how high the prices were until we looked at the menu, but decided to stay since it was the last night of our vacation. We ordered the Ribeye and the Strip. Both were cooked perfectly and were absolutely delicious. We did have a long wait before our steaks came out to us, but the manager recognized us and was extremely apologetic and in turn provided complimentary desserts and coffees. While we paid a good bit, the food and service was excellent.

This place required reservations for two. We arrived and got seated right away. The service was just ok... The filet was outstanding! A couple of critiques… They charge for sauces on their steaks at about four dollars a sauce. They also serve their sides, and they are family portion sides, on separate plates which is a little weird. Like their side of mushrooms was a ton of mushrooms! Not complaining that we got a lot of food, it just seemed a little bizarre. I would highly recommend a bottle of wild things Zinfandel, it was delicious. The bread they serve for free was delicious, but the dipping sauce was a little bit too intense. To be honest I am rather picky, hence my name, and I would definitely go back to this restaurant for dinner. I believe it’s the best place in Zion so far!

Worst experience ever. Manager was rude and food was worse. They served us all four meals incorrectly and when I said we were going to leave, he expected us to pay despite there being no food on our table because we sent it back to the kitchen. Take a look at the $24 kids steak they claim was a NY Strip that was ordered well done. I have seen better steaks at a sizzler. Save your money and eat elsewhere. We had better food and service at the Sol Grocery stores deli.

The wedge salad is the best. Our filets were good, if a bit overcooked. The sauce bordelaise is excellent. The wine list is terribly overpriced. For example, a Shaw & Smith Shiraz at the excellent Spotty Dog down the street is $73. Switchback lists the same wine for $90. Not cool. Good news ... we bought a decent $20 cab in the wine shop next to the restaurant, paid a reasonable $20 corkage fee and enjoyed a good red with our steaks. The service started out okay but suddenly disappeared. We waited over 10 minutes after finishing our steaks before a waiter appeared. She took our order for dessert but did not clear the table. 15 minutes later, out table is still full of dirty dishes and no dessert, no waiter. Had to chase the waiter down to ask for the check. We have been traveling in the southwest for a month and are well aware of the staffing issues that restaurants and hotels face. I encourage everyone to tip good service more than generously. By the same token, restaurant owners should not try to stretch their limited staffs too far. Trying to serve maximum guests with insufficient staff only leads to annoying experiences like I had at Switchback.

My g/f and I stopped in here for dinner after just getting into town and although it was expensive it was completely worth it! First thing I will say is make a reservation as it does get busy and the other thing is the place isn't cheap. That being said, the place screams high end when you walk in with its very Western decor and feel. Our server immediately came up to the table to get our drink orders and then to bring out their freshly made bread which was fantastic. Our steaks were divine and the sides were amazing although the portion sizes on sides were enough for 2 people. Just a great dining experience when you want to splurge a little.

Our experience was frustrating. The restaurant itself is lovely. But our server was aloof (to put it kindly) and inattentive. He seemed unhappy to be there and had zero interest in making us feel welcome. We ordered sparking wine because we were celebrating a special occasion. When he brought it, he did not bring an ice bucket. When I asked for one, he said they were all in use (which was bizarre, as the restaurant was not full - is there an ice bucket shortage?). He said he would bring an ice bucket when one was available. Never happened. Once he brought our entrees, we did not see him again for at least 20 minutes. Had he bothered to check in, we would have mentioned that our side dishes (potatoes) were not warm. In addition, my high-priced, aged NY strip was tough and lacked seasoning. It was cooked as ordered (medium rare) but was just a tough and low flavored piece of meat. My wife ordered the meatloaf, which she enjoyed, so that is a positive. Still, we left with the feeling that we had paid a lot of money for a dining experience that fell far short.

Overpriced. Indoors dining only and was disturbed to be seated right next to another table even tho the dining room was near empty. If you’re concerned about social distancing I. This time, this is not the place to go. Calamari was good/interesting. Think of calamari fajitas. Hubby had a filet, I give them credit for asking to cut into the steak when it arrives to make sure it’s to your desired cook, but unfortunately my hubby’s was still mooing. He didn’t even need to cut into it, I could tell by the squishiness before he even made the cut. So it went back. I ordered the Chilean sea bass and it tasted fishy. A fish of this caliber should ever taste fishy, seemed like it was a few days old. Wine selection was ok but they kept running out of the reds we wanted. You’d be better off spending less for more food and better quality someplace else.

I had to beat salad with goat cheese and greens and I believe walnuts on the top and it was delicious. My husband had the tomato basil soup and they gave him two little grilled cheese sandwiches that were outstanding. We she shared the meatloaf thank goodness. It was a stack with Fresh tomatoes

This is a beautiful venue with creative dishes and upscale service. We were able to be seated earlier than our initial online reservation and we appreciated that. Utah has some unusual regulations regarding alcohol serving. That was disappointing, but no fault of the restaurant. My New York strip steak was excellent, and my husband’s trout was a generous portion, but seemed less cooked than we like. Luckily we split a wedge salad and a side of creamed spinach because the portions were huge, and the spinach was almost too rich. Lots of thought goes into the food presentation, and you can make some minor choice changes (ie. mashed potatoes instead of red roasted potatoes). We were happy with our experience, but it was a splurge for us.

We had our anniversary dinner at Switchback in November. Our server was Blake. He was attentive and had great suggestions and insight on menu items. The food was simply incredible. One of the few times in my life I ate deliberately slow, to enjoy it as much as possible. Switchback is the only game in town when heading to Zion.
