Small place, but very good food. The green chile had just the right amount of spice. Lunch plates were very large. A favorite among its patrons.

Extremely overdue review of my favorite New Mexican restaurant. I am a New Mexico native often back home for visits to family and friends. In Santa Fe. Perea’s is hands-down the best New Mexican cuisine in Albuquerque if not the state. It is extremely authentic,...is outstandingly good, and always consistent. I’ve been going here for years and never make a trip without stopping by - several times. If you ever find yourself in Albuquerque or northern New Mexico stop here! I’d recommend the huevos rancheros Christmas style with hash browns and a flour tortilla. You won’t be sorry. Great job, Perea’s!More
Pereas pride themselves on making everything from scratch and it shows in the product. Nothing tastes like a homogenized product and that's definitely a good thing. You'll likely be treated as if you're in grandma's dining room as well. Prices are very reasonable for what...you get.More
I can't handle a lot of heat, so I was concerned about whether I'd be able to eat a lot of chile when I was visiting NM. Turns out I could eat almost everything pretty well. This was the meal I struggled with. I had...a breakfast burrito with three meats and potato; it was delicious. However, it was also swimming in chile and this chile was hot. Very hot. Not to mention that of course the burrito was served steaming hot. When I had leftovers later, I had to scrape off the chile because that was the only way I could eat it. If you're looking for some hot chile, this is the place to go. However, if your taste buds are more like mine, I'd recommend asking them to hold the chile. I enjoyed the food otherwise and the restaurant has some nice decor.More
My wife and I have lived in Albuquerque for almost 6 years now, and we enjoy going out for breakfast. We have tried all the "recommended" New Mexican places, but this one blows the rest out of the water. Simply put, they have the best...red and green chili in the city. Their breakfast burritos are amazing, carne adovada is spot on, sopapillas are great. It is a simple, down to earth mom and pop place with limited seating, but it is always clean with excellent, fast and friendly service. Also, the prices cannot be beat. This is the place you want to take your relatives who are visiting.More
When our family is in town from Texas, Perea’s is a must do before they go home. The staff if very friendly and efficient. Some of the best green Chile in town. Perea’s is a true authentic New Mexican restaurant. “Best chile in town!”
Small local restaurant. Clean, with friendly staff. Food was affordable, and the best Mexican restaurant. Came hear during a visit last year. This was the only restaurant the whole family wanted to visit again. Best red chili sauce I have ever had. Very warm and...Smokey, but not too hot to take away from the taste of the dish. Best huevos rancheros we have ever had. Will definitely visit again!More
I found this on Yelp a few years ago when visiting Albuquerque and have been coming back ever since. As a matter of fact, this is the first Mexican restaurant I go to when in town and I usually go several times. They have awesome...chili rellenos and green chili. Their sopapillas are the best too! It may not look like much, but the food is well worth it!More
Back from trip; no better place than here for our chile fix. In my opinion, one of better places for New Mexican food, and the best is at home! Non Appetite
Pereas is my first stop for late breakfast whenever I visit my daughter. The huevas rancheros is the best. The refried beans have a slightly smokey flavor and the hashbrowns are crispy despite being smothered in red and green. The carne adovada is served as...big, tender chunks of saucy pork. The ladies serving are the best.More
You simply won’t find better green or red chile or carne adovada anywhere. If you’re not used to spicy NM food you’d want to steer clear but if you love chile you’ll be in heaven.
Chose this establishment because it was close to our motel and we were craving Mexican food. Oh so good! Shredded chicken taco salad was delicious - love the salsa verde. Service was fast & friendly, with lots of tea refills. Highly recommend.
Had always heard how great the food was at this place which I had not visited before. Earlier this month while on that side of town, I decided to give it a try. From the outside, the place looks like an old Long John Silvers...with little indication that it serves New Mexican food. The inside was plain with formica tables and uncomfortable chairs. The floors must be uneven because my chair rocked back and forth every time I shifted my body. I orded the Stuffed bean and meat sopapilla with red chili. My wife ordered the small juevos ranchero plate. Our food arrived fairly promptly. I discovered that my stuffed sopapilla consisted of ground beef mixed with beans unlike most other placed that serve shredded beef. The beans tasted homemade but were warm and not warm. I would rate their red chili as average, at best. My wife really enjoyed her order and gave the green chili high marks. She did not care for the plain jane ambience and assortment of clientele that included a group of firement that kept getting called out twice during our lunch. The guys were eating their food standing up at the cashiers and running back to their table for additional bites. While appreciative of their dedication, it was nevertheless distracting. I must only add one more personal peeve when I go out to eat. I find that places that are chinsy with their napkins or that provide the cheapest paper napkins to be chinsy with customers. Sorry Perea's but you have a lot of competition in Albuquerque. Not likely to return.More
I have eaten at this restaurant and followed them to their many different locations all over the northeast heights of Albuquerque for 25 years. In my opinion, as a New Mexico native, this place has some of the best red chile I have ever had....The refried beans are stellar. Carne adovada is excellent; I don't know if their flour tortillas are made on the premises, but they certainly taste like they are. Thick and very large. Consistently an enjoyable experience. Friendly service as well.More
This seems to be a family enterprise. The hostess and our waitress took an intense interest in making sure we knew enough about all the food. My wife didn't know what a sopapilla was, and they brought her some free ones to try. They brought...us little cups of the home-made red and green chili so we could taste-test before ordering our meals. They were constantly coming to our table to check on us and make sure we were having a good experience. We felt like were were at their house. The best service ever! The food was great too.More
