Great bar, restaurant, pool tables... Had the open fires roaring on a cold, wet summer's night. Food was fantastic- had pork crackling, ribs and best gluten-free pizza I have had anywhere. Staff were efficient and friendly. Definitely recommend here for evening meal.

Monsoon lived up to its name when we visited, but their unique outdoor dining setup, with a sloped three piece open roof and fire running, protected us from the cold and rain while letting in lovely fresh air. The place was really buzzing when we...visited and likely the busiest spot in Franz Josef. Excellent service from the staff despite the crowds. The drinks menu caters for the gin aficionados, but the food menu has a nice mix of pub/bistro style fare. I loved the buffalo cauliflower but the pork belly was a bit of a let down. Would recommend a visit for the surroundings alone.More

We ate here during a v busy time in early Jan and the host was a great manager of seatings, bookings, etc. She was truly grace under pressure. Our food took a bit long; yet the staff were well aware of it, 2-3 of them...stopped by our table to check on us, and apologised. They comped us dessert, but they didn’t need to as everyone was making a good effort, and were so nice that we went back the next night for dinner. Our food came out promptly and we had another yummy meal. I had a salad the first night and the beef cheeks the 2nd, both were yum. Nice atmosphere, good service, good food. Was impressed as there’s not much competition in Franz Josef area, they don’t have to make an effort, yet they do a really good job. Eat here.More

Lovely outdoor deck with chill music and nice vibe but the sevice is seriously lacking. There seemed to be enough staff on but the service was very erratic. A couple who arrived after us got their meals, ate them and left before we even got...our 1 pizza and order of fish and chips. Another couple by us were there before us and left waiting for a very long time before being told there was a stuff up in communication from kitchen via wait staff. We ordered drinks from the bar while server cleared table we requested (had nicer view) then found some other guys had randomly taken our table - one guy at a table that sat six (we were 3). Same guy then smoked 3 cigarettes during the hour it took for our meals to come. I thought it was illegal in NZ to smoke st restaurants? No restaurant staff seemed to care sadly. Staff were all super friendly but it was very odd how orders were processed / not processed. We arrived at 8.30pm really hungry and it took until 9.30 to get a very simple dinner delivered to table. One pizza and an order of fish and chips. We did order garlic bread as starter but even that took 30 min to arrive! Had to get our own water for the table, there was only one serviette, nobody ever came to ask us if we wanted more drinks and then finally we had to flag a server down to order dessert. The food: was good- mexican chicken pizza was good and the fish and chips had fresh fish with a crispy batter. The creme brulee tasted like it came from a packet - not at all like the real thing but still cost $14. We came out for dinner to support local business but were not impressed. Good thing the location is lovely and the music was relaxing.More

We booked a table to find they couldn't find our booking, it was busy but they found a table due to an earlier booking that had not turned up. We then sat for 50mins before were were asked if we were ready to order or...even take a drinks order, we didn't even get offered water. We were about to leave when finally someone came to serve us, so we placed our order and I mentioned the wait time, I think they pushed our order through as it arrived quite quickly and the food was good. When I paid they had not charged us for drinks we ordered due to our wait time which was nice.More

Liked this place. Friendly European staff. Decent tunes played. Reasonable prices and decent food and the atmosphere is quite nice. Everywhere else in town is fairly average so I’d stick with this option. Right near the spa baths which I also recommend, especially taking a...private small pool.More

What a joke. Went here due to recommendation on check-in to Rain Forest retreat. Booked a table for 8:00pm and arrived on the dot at 8. Was seated promptly and then waited 40mins without anyone attending to us - we walked out and went to...The Landing. Talking to tables around us we weren’t the only ones being forgotten. Truly laughable, eat somewhere else!More

Kia Ora Peter I am sorry that our service wasn't up to scratch during your stay. As I'm sure you noticed it was extremely busy, we didn't intend to ignore you and had you given our staff a little wave we would have happily taken...More

We booked in advance and went for dinner at 7pm. Our group of 3 had the bacon & beef burger, the kid’s portion pork ribs, and the mains size seafood chowder for mains. The portion sizes are fairly generous. The crackling pork was disappointing. They...have an amazing range of gins, and we sampled the Revenge (Auckland) and the 1919 (Auckland); excellent stuff. We were given a table fairly close to the kitchen, which was fairly busy. Although we were told at the time of booking that they were rather busy that evening, to our surprise, we found quite a few empty tables.More

We booked for 6 pm. We were given the menu and told about the "Gin Special" ... and after about 10 mins waiting, I had to summon the waiter so we could order (and needed a drink...). Felt a bit neglected, but they were very...busy.... perhaps "stretched". Lovely friendly wait staff! I ordered the gin special and it was delicious. I loved my Fettucine, with an extra salad; my husband had the Caesar salad which also was delicious. No puddings! Off to early bed early, having driven from Te Anau all day.More
