Went there for lunch and really enjoyed it. The tomato soup was really good and the homemade bread was just amazing. The cucumber salsa you get to put on your bread was so good and interesting, something you wouldn’t necessarily expect. The service was great, everyone was so polite and nice. Also the fact that the restaurant is in a greenhouse made the whole experience amazing and their tomato concept is so fun and unique. You can also buy delicious souvenirs - jam, sauces and more tomato related things! Heads up though, they are only open on weekends and I would recommend to make reservations because they are almost always fully booked. But go there it is so worth it !

Good afternoon, Thank you for sharing your experience. Our restaurant is inside an open greenhouse, so our guests can sit among the plants, enjoying their lunch in a unique environment. We thrive to share our concept with our guests so they can learn how we grow tomatoes all year around, despite Iceland’s long, dark winters, under artificial lighting in greenhouses. They are welcome to enjoy a taste of the crop in our restaurant. We recommend our guests to reserve a table in advance to make sure they will have a table at the desired time that fits their plans the best. We are open every day between 12:00-16:00. For reservations please contact us by e-mail (fridheimar@fridheimar.is) or by phone (+354) 486 8894. We hope to see you again! Best regards, Friðheimar Team

What a cool concept to have a restaraunt in a greenhouse for tomatoes with a menu with everything tomatoe. Loved this place and so did my vegan hubby. Celebrated our anniversary here. Most meals were 20Kr each, even a bowl of tomatoe soup, which was unlimited servings of soup and bread. Hubby had the delicious soup and I had the stone baked tortilla. For dessert, green tomatoe apple pie and tomatoe ice cream. Yum!

This was a really unique experience. The unlimited homemade tomato soup and fresh breads were so tasty. The tomato beer was also great. The complimentary tea and coffee is a great touch. The atmosphere was great and our waiter was very friendly and gave us a little insight into the history and workings of the large green house before taking our order which was really interesting. We are glad we visited and would return again

We stopped here for lunch while "self-driving" the Golden Circle and absolutely loved it! We called when we were about 45 mins out and they took our booking over the phone. Our server gave an intro to the greenhouse (it's heated 100% by a natural spring on site, and they import bumble bees to help Polinate 🤓!) and we ordered the soup and their new special - giant tomato's and burrata - and everything was just so tasty and full of flavor. Full disclosure, it's not cheap but the quality and flavor of the food, as well as the atmosphere and service made it 100% worth it, I would highly, highly recommend.

Good morning, We are happy to hear that you had a tasty flavorful lunch. We use natures help to grow tomatoes in the greenhouses and we buy bumblebees from the Netherlands to help us pollinate the flowers. We love to share our story with our guests and we offer a variety of delicious dishes made from our own crop. Our newest special course is the delicious Heirloom tomatoes and Icelandic handmade Mozzarella Burrata served with basil olive oil and sea salt flakes, ideal for sharing. We hope to welcome you again on your next trip! All the best, Friðheimar Team.

We went here for lunch with friends and it was a fun location with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We all had the fresh tomato soup, which was delicious and is served with sour cream, fresh basic and a cucumber relish. A huge table of homemade bread is close by where you help yourself, and they provide plenty of creamy Icelandic butter. The best bit for me was the fresh homemade gluten-free bread (esseas I have Coeliac's). Would thoroughly recommend a visit to this unique location.

Dear Visitor, Thank you for the kind thoughts. Our restaurant is inside an open greenhouse, so our guests can sit among the plants, enjoying their lunch in a unique, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We aim to provide options for our guests with special dietary requirements. We recommend to let your waiter/waitress know about it, so we can help to find the suitable meal and our kitchen can accommodate these requests. We are delighted to hear that our gluten-free bread was to your liking. We hope you spent a nice holiday in Iceland. Best regards, Friðheimar Team

This something you should try if you visit Iceland, especially if you like tomatoes. You must book a table if you want to eat lunch in this tomato greenhouse. Everything on the menu has tomatoes in it. My meal consisted of a Healthy Mary to drink consisting of green tomssto, lime, honey and ginger. Tomato soup was next served from a buffet with homemade bread, sour cream, cucumber salsa, butter and fresh herbs though the basil was growing next to the table so you cpld help yourself. We added cheese and vegetable sticks. For dessert I tried tomato ice cream. I didn't enjoy all thee things i tried but I loved the experience. what a great place

As a family of 4, we went as a complement to the Secret Lagoon. I'm convinced the only reason Fridheimer exists is to siphon off tourists visiting the Secret Lagoon as well as feeding tour buses of gastronomically-challenged tourists or senior citizens who think a bowl of tomato soup and bread is a satisfying meal. We did not make reservations but showed up on a rainy day. Parked without a problem. Walked in and saw roomful of empty tables. The hostess greeted us by saying lunch is unavailable to us since we are without reservation. I said we were famished, won't stay long and can be done in less than 30 minutes. "NO". Instead we could stand by the bar area and order soup there. That's what we did. We stood like idiots at a bar trying to eat 4 bowls of soup of ~$10 each, which was disrupting the bartender trying to serve drinks. One kind bartender was nice enough to squeeze us at a bar table so we can make room at the bar. The soup was fine, but after all it's just plain tomato soup with nothing in it. The bun and butter was a highlight (sarcasm). During all this time, 80% of the dining area remained empty. The staff were all 20 somethings and disorganized. All they knew to say was you can't eat here today without a reservation. We are busy and you have to book a couple days in advance. For a pseudo-dining experience in a greenhouse? Give me a break. The greenhouse takes great pride in explaining how cutting edge and important their facility is. Having a greenhouse background from Canada, where I've regularly worked with facilities that are 10's of acres in scale, I found it surprising that Fridheimer was only 11,000 square feet large! More of a scale of a hobby farm than commercial greenhouse. It seemed they grew cherry tomatoes... nothing of significance. What I thought would be a novel experience to complement a trip to the Secret Lagoon was an eye opener in arrogance, mismanagement and poor service. Never again. Steer clear of this waste of time.

Dear JRM, It is sad to hear about your experience, as we take pride in welcoming our guests. Therefore, we emphasize to all of our guests to plan ahead and book a table in advance. That is to make sure that you have a guaranteed table at the date and time of your choice. Similar to other restaurants that use reservations, we are not able to give away tables that are reserved for guests who are just about to arrive. During the high-season we have been fully booked every day, however, we try our best to accommodate as many guests without reservations as we can. When we are not able to offer our guests a table, we have our bar area available. At the bar we offer our soup in a cup with bread, desserts and drinks, and guests are able to sit at the bar, enjoy and walk around the guest facilities as they please. Me and my wife decided to open up our tomato farm 12 years ago, inspired to create something special and unique, something we hope people have never tried before. So we set up a restaurant, or what we rather want to call a food experience, inside our greenhouses. The restaurant offers a simple menu - tomato based dishes from the plants which you sit beside. The main idea was to spread knowledge about the background of the food which we grow in our greenhouses and offer in the restaurant, in a sustainable and eco friendly way. Just to clear up any misunderstanding, Friðheimar greenhouses are 11,000 square meters (not square feet), where we harvest on average 2 tons of tomatoes every day, which equals to around 700 tons per year. According to Icelandic standards, Friðheimar greenhouses are not considered to be a hobby greenhouse, even though it might be elsewhere. We hope you had lovely stay in Iceland, and wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Best regards, Knútur and the Friðheimar Family

Not the usual restaurant, housed in a huge greenhouse filled with tomato and other plants, and the occasional bumble bee flying around you while you have your meal. We had forgotten to book a table, but luckily it was the winter season and it was not so crowded. We waited about 20 minutes at the bar and were promptly seated between the tomato vines. The menu was limited, and was full of tomatoes, but every dish tasted perfect. If you ordered the tomato soup, then it was refillable and bread was free-flow. The bar had a selection of beer made from, what else but tomatoes. There is a small parking right in front of the greenhouse, we did not know that and parked outside, walking distance of about 5 minutes.

Pretentious and overpriced, these two stars are for a good concept bringing a real sense of farm to table and a cool location for a restaurant. A bowl of soup and bread that you self serve is highly priced for 23 dollars, a tortilla pizza that a college student could make in his dorm is laughable and the pretentious plating around almost all of it makes me cringe a little bit. The business model a lot of these restaurants in Iceland work with, where they charge people ludicrous amounts of money for mediocre food is common in Iceland because they realise 99% of people will never come back. As an Icelander it makes me a little bit sad and embarrassed.

Sæl Sigurbjörg, It's nice to hear that you like our concept but your attitude for the business model makes us sad. Me and my wife decided to open up our tomato farm 12 years ago, inspired to create something special and unique, something we hope people have never tried before. So we set up a restaurant, or what we rather want to call a food experience, inside our greenhouses. The restaurant offers a simple menu - something from the plants which you sit beside. The main idea was to spread knowledge about the background of the food which we grow in our greenhouses and offer in the restaurant, in a sustainable and eco friendly way. We believe our prices are reasonable. For example, for 2490 ISK you get a soup buffet with as much tomato soup as you want and home baked bread, cucumber salsa, butter and sour cream, along with basil to cut in the soup and coffee and tea included. Also, we tell all our guests about how it is possible to grow tomatoes all year around in Iceland, and the specialities about Icelandic vegetables. We are really happy that we have many guests coming again and again and we recently made a research lasting a whole year, researching where our guests are coming from and how they learned about us. The results showed that more than half of our guests are coming because someone recommended us to them. Since we don't spend anything on advertisements but rely solely on word of mouth, we find this strategy working really well for us. We believe this is because our guests like our farm and because of our unique concept, since you can't find anything like this anywhere else. We are proud to be a part of Icelandic tourism which is very creative and innovative, building up a unique country to visit. We all the best luck, Knútur and family of Friðheimar

The place is fabulous! So refreshing to eat at this place, the air, the atmosphere, staff, food! Everything is great! We ordered soup (not a fan (especially for that high price) but worth trying once) the bread that comes with the soup is too good! We ordered also Ravioli. The best ravioli we have ever tried! Next time I will definitely order Ravioli! We got 1 dessert of the menu, some cheese cake with tomato jam (or something like that) it was the best dessert I have ever tried! (Btw. The jam was made out of tomato, lime and cinnamon I do not care for any of these ingredients! But trust me you have to try it!) Coffee was included in the price, witch was nice given the rather high prices they have. If you are going the golden circle you need to stop here! It is magical!

Fridheimar is only 20mins from where we were staying and our Airbnb host recommended a visit – so glad we did. The restaurant is in the greenhouses where they grow the tomato vines and, for me, it had a real magical atmosphere as we walked in. We were warmly greeted and welcomed and soon shown to our table. If you are keen to have a great experience as well as delicious food this could be the place for you. The tables are set amongst the rows of tomato plants and are attractively set out with each table having a pot of basil and a pair scissors so that you can add some fresh herbs to your chosen dishes. The menu was well explained by our very friendly and helpful waitress and we were given good advice on how much we needed to order. The menu is completely tomato based, so you can have tomato cocktails, tomato beer, starters, mains AND even desserts. Everything is made on site and everything was delicious. After our meal we had a wander around the greenhouse and watched the growing staff tend the plants and pick the fruit and could see in to the greenhouse where the basil and salad leaves are grown. Just a lovely experience and such a great idea. We visited in October and even at this time of year it was necessary to book ahead. Highly recommended.

Nice setting of a restaurant in a greenhouse. Very few waiters so you wait very long to be seated even though tables are free but need to be cleaned and prepared. Burrata with tomatoes - nice. Bread selection - best part of the meal, tasty and fresh Tortilla- tasteless, drowned in cheese. Just blah. So after waiting 50 mins to be seated, stuffed my face with bread but overall food was super average and disappointing and super expensive.

Dear Jack02, Thank you for your review and for visiting Friðheimar. We are glad you enjoyed our Heirloom & Burrata and the bread. We emphasize having good and efficient service, and we are fully booked most days, but we try our best to accommodate everyone. However, the wait might be longer for those without a reservation. Therefore, we always recommend making reservations in advance, to secure a table at your desired time. Thank you again for coming and we hope you had a wonderful time in Iceland Best regards, Friðheimar family

We diverted our travels in Iceland to ensure we made a late lunch stop at this location! I recommend reserving a table as seating is highly sought after. (You can reserve by calling or emailing them) There is a bar on location which serves all kinds of tomato based drinks. I had a shot served in a tomato !! The soup was good but the biggest hit for my husband was the breads (particularly the olive bread) You can order from the menu to add various additions to the soup. ( I chose chicken) or you can stick with the buffet. This greenhouse produces 40% of the tomato’s for Iceland. They do have horses on the premises as well.

We stopped for lunch. What a nice place, both inside and outside. Too bad, the horse show was not running. The all-you-can-eat tomato soup and bread are highly recommended. Afterwards I had the burrata with all kinds of tomatoes. Great! Service was excellent: quick and friendly. We saw many families enjoying themselves.

Everything about this place is unique and special. I love myself a good tomato soup and this place does not disappoint one bit. From grabbing basil leaves from a potted plant on the table to the green tomato ice cream, everything was delicious and well seasoned. The place itself is amazing, having dinner between the tomato plants. Make sure you get reservations, this place is always full and they will not accept walk-ins.
