This was my third attempt at eating at Gamla Fjósið. I was not disappointed. I had a burger and sweet mama it was so goooood. The meat was tender and pink on the inside, so pink at the border that I thought to myself that it would probably be raw in the middle. But no! It was perfect. The bun was delicious, there was plenty of sauce and it just made the burger so juicy and for the record, usually I'm not a big fan of a large quantity of sauce but this was Delicious! The service was great - maybe due to lack of customers (-> pandemic). The place is fabulous, it has some old stuff related to milking cows as decorations, and of course Gamla Fjósið literally means "the Old Cowshed". Would def. recommend.

Gamma Fjosid was recommended by Rick Steve’s after we visited Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. it is unassuming from the outside. The inside is bright and clean inside what may have been a cow barn. they serve food on beautiful China bowls and plates. My husband and his friend got the cod dinner. It was a beautiful piece of cod with potatoes and broccoli. (I tasted it and it was flaky and tender) My friend got a bowl of cauliflower soup and bread. it was tasty. I got date cake with Carmel sauce and whipped cream. It was delicious. our waitress was wonderful. she was very attentive . It was perfect after our waterfall visit.

After a busy morning of exploring, we tried this charming little restaurant for lunch and left satisfied. Our waitress was Polish and was a very good server. We loved the Bread basket $1190 ISK which was homemade bread with homemade chili jam and mint jam. We all had the Farmer’s Burger for $2890 ISK, it’s a burger place, they were topped with fried mushrooms and onions. They were quite good and large, the girls could not finish theirs. They were served with fries, which were just fries. The place was decorated with antiques inside, farm equipment outside, along with the whale bones, of course.

At Gamla Fjósið we stopped on our way home to have something to eat. I got the course of the day, a hamburger on a Portobello mushroom with a blue cheese sauce and salat. The hamburger was large and fried to medium (just a little pink in the middle) It was perfectly seasoned and tasted really good. The blue cheese sauce was tasty and the salat that came with the dish was very good. For desert I got tiramisu, which tasted very good. I would have liked to have more cake fingers in the desert. The others had classical hamburgers and were very happy about them. The service was excellent (only speaking English) The restaurant was clean and comfortable. The plates and furniture are second hand and very much giving a homely feeling.

So glad we skipped the tourist food trucks at the local waterfalls for this quaint county farm restaurant with kind staff and delicious local food. My husband rated the vegetable curry the best curry of the trip, I ordered the local fresh fish and veggies which were done very well and tasted fresh, and the kids gobbled up the volcano soup (beef & veggies) and burger. 2 local tours has booked out most of the tables. Of note, all the local guides ordered the veg curry while tourists ordered the burger. Highly recommend the veg curry! The ambience of a country farm in rural Iceland serving food on china added to the appeal for a delightful dining experience.

What a nice place this is! A large barn converted into a cozy restaurant. So completely different from the bare and corporate restaurants we saw during our tour. They have their own products and meat from their own livestock and lots of tasty treats for vegetarians. Friendly welcome and a hearty Lava soup (so appropriate near the Eyyafjallajökull volcano). And when the plate of soup was finished and it seemed a bit small, another plate was served for the same price... That makes you happy! Tasty desserts, pleasant music. Smooth service with a cheerful smile. Go eat there if you're in the area!

we had dinner here. it was for the most part tasty but unfortunately the salad with beef unfortunately was served with some raw beef. i brought this to the attention of the service staff and they took it back to the kitchen. they removed without replacing the raw beef and the half portion of salad that had been in contact with the raw meat. i asked for them to replace it or provide a partial refund, and i was denied.

We arrived at our lodging in this area later in the day and by 8 PM few nearby options were open but we were glad we ate here. This place is famous for beef and indeed one of us had an excellent burger, but we also had the daily fish special (Arctic char) and it was also very good, simply prepared, though maybe a little underseasoned. Fair pricing. Interesting photos on the wall of local life including the Eyjafjallajokull eruption in 2010. Young, pleasant staff. We would happily eat here again.

We ordered a country burger, a steinar-stake sandwich and a cauliflower soup. The menu didn’t say anything about the burger being rare cooked but it was bright pink. We told our waiter and asked if they could cook it more so they took it back to the kitchen. It came back bright pink, it wasn’t cooked at all. They didn’t offer anything and we had to pay full prize. It wasn’t what we expected.

Finding good food in the area is really tough. My friend and I came to this restaurant based upon the recommendation of the cook/chef at our hotel. And we were not disappointed. The burger and fries were REALLY good! There was a pretty large group there before we arrived, so they finished most of the (special) desserts. But we did get carrot cake and it was decent.

Great service, great food and didnt cost that much. A great resturant to visit if you are traveling on the south coast.

Perfect afternoon stop after the falls or a trip to the black sands. On our nine day trip we actually had the opportunity to eat twice at the Old Cowhouse—both times wonderfully warm and satisfying. The burgers here are brilliant, but the asparagus soup we had, while self-served, was one of the best I can remember anywhere. The decorative antique China is a homey touch, and the service timely and professional. This is a great find, and definitely worth a stop along Route 1.

The kids loved their burger, which is not common. However we were disappointed with the soups. I had the soup of the day, supposed to be a mushroom soup but it was definately not a mushroom soup, but a kind of asparagus or a cauliflower soup without any taste of either. The bread that came with the soup was below average. My wife had the Volcanic soup, a gullash meat soup, both flawor and the texture of the ingredients were below par.

If it wasn’t for the 4-5 cars parked outside this unremarkable looking shed, we wouldn’t have noticed this restaurant. So when we returned that evening, not expecting it to be open, we were pleasantly surprised at the charming, rustic interior and locally sourced beer, meat and fish (vegetarian options were available). The food (and beer) was delicious and the service excellent. Well worth a visit.

We stumbled across this restaurant after visiting a nearby waterfall. A cosy rustic restaurant serving very tasty food. We ate lunch of stir fried vegetables in a curry sauce and steak sandwich. Both dishes were excellent. As with all Iceland the food and drink is expensive in comparison to the UK. Lunch was just over £60 for 2 people.
