We were not expecting to be dining at an Ethiopian restaurant in the middle of Iceland but we enjoyed our evening at Minilik. The restaurant is quite cosy and is decorated with all things Ethiopian which means there is plenty to look at on the walls while you wait for your food. The host was friendly and showed us how to eat using the pancakes. We had one spicy chicken based dish and one yellow split peas dish (like a dahl) which were very tasty and filling. It was also very good value compared to the average restaurant in Iceland. The wait time was not too long considering there seemed to be just the husband and wife owners running everything. I would recommend giving this place a try, it added something completely different to our holiday!

On top of the absolutely delicious food, the owners - a sweet Icelandic man and his Ethiopian wife - kept the restaurant open longer than intended in order to serve my family of four. The husband was the one to serve us, he spoke very little English but that did not stop him from giving us recommendations for the food we should order and the way we should order it. Our experience was amazing and the food was 10/10!!

Quirky place with the most hearty food you’ll find in Iceland. I have been to Minilik over 20 times - my most favourite restaurant <3 Owned and exclusively worked by wife and husband Azeb and Árni who are both very sweet and genuine people. Recommend Minilik special for a treat!

I really don’t understand all the good reviews. We went here because there are not a whole lot of options in the area and this was the only place where people were sitting. The place smells, it takes forever to get your food and when it finally comes it’s just a tiny bit and not even good. I would walk straight by this place.

This is not for everyone's taste, but there are not many options in Fludir to choose from. You get one or more curry-style stews and some pancakes that serve as cutlery. I suppose that's the Ethiopian custom. My beef stew was a bit sour and not great. The vegetarian stews looked a bit more attractive. Portions are not really filling. The interior of the place is modern and spacious, with quite a lot of (Etiopian?) art works for decoration. But my clothes were smelly the next morning, so ventilation is not great.

No question, the food is excellent. Totally unexpected to find this delicious Ethiopian food just steps from our hotel in Fludir. It was really really good. Our 4 teenagers basically cleaned their plates, to their own surprise. The only downside is that it is lovingly run by the couple, with no other employees to help. She cooks, he runs the front side--seating you, getting menus, water, taking orders, and taking payment. if it's not too busy, it probably works well. When we were there on a Wednesday, there were 8 tables full, which is a lot for even the best waiters, and he was doing it all....but slowly. We waited about 30 minutes to give our order and then maybe another 30 for our first course and then another 15 for main course (she brings out the dishes with their amazing aromas one by one to tables). Then it took more time to get his attention for dessert and another delay trying to pay. Honestly, as long as you are not in a hurry or exhausted at the end of a long day, then the food is totally worth the wait. It was excellent.

There isn’t much in Fludir, a hotel, a convenience store, the secret lagoon not far from town and this restaurant (I also think there is a pub but it wasn’t open on the Tuesday when we were in town). We arrived early enough about 18:00 and the gentleman at reception was already looking a bit flustered but showed us to a table – and there we waited. We weren’t given a menu (we took them from an empty table ourselves) and then we waited some more. We were thirsty but weren’t offered a drink or given a bottle of water for the table – so we waited some more with our thirst. It became clear that the gentleman taking the orders had a system, he took orders in the order the tables arrived (more or less, two tables that arrived after us got their orders taken before us) and he left a bottle of water with the tables orders were taken from as a visual reminder to him which tables had ordered. Our order finally taken (it was well over an hour after arrival) we were given our bottle of water and our drinks order arrived. And we waited some more. The food finally arrived was really delicious. I’ve never had Ethiopian food before so can’t compare it to any other restaurants but I’ll certainly be looking out for it in the future. In fairness we had nothing to do that evening in Fludir – there isn’t exactly any nightlife, so we weren’t in any real hurry, it would have been nice to have a couple of beers though while waiting for our order to be taken and the food to arrive. It seems to be a two person operation – the gentleman takes the orders and cleans the tables and his wife cooks and serves the food. One extra member of staff would make all the difference.

Always looking for the out-of-the ordinary, we tried this Ethiopian restaurant in Flúðir. Our meal was various savoury meat and vegetable/pulse sauces, all arranged on one large platter with thin pancakes rather than cutlery, to be used a bit like chapatis. All the cooking was done by an Ethiopian lady. It was quite tasty, and certainly unusual for us. Not for everyone, but if you're adventurous with food, worth a visit. Not expensive.

The food was exquisite. Each dish that 6 of us individuals ordered was prepared with care. Items were tender and well cooked, but the flavors were not "crock pot" i.e. the various seasonings could be distinguished. The service was excellent and atmosphere was clean and interesting.

Great experience overall! A very homey restaurant where the wife makes the delicious, authentic food and the sweet husband waits the tables. Definitely recommend getting a big platter and sharing with the table!

The food was super tasty and came with a free bread refill. The chef used just the right amount of spices. It seems very unexpected to go to an ethiopean restaurant in Fludir, but i can highly recommend to go there

There is a lovely welcoming atmosphere at this surprising restaurant in the village of Fludir. The food is excellent and terrific value (especially for Iceland!). The owners are really helpful, advising on the food choices. Just the thing to follow an afternoon at the Secret Lagoon!

What a disappointment! I really don't understand where the reviews are coming from. I visit a lot of restaurants but this one gets an F. We went for the menu with the chicken and one with the lamb. Both the portion of braised chicken and lamb was no more than a good tablespoon on the sourdough pancake with some sparse attributes around it. The chicken and lamb pieces had to be found with a magnifying glass. More sauce than meat. Moreover, a plate was completely insufficient to satisfy the hunger. Nice to try once but for me once but never again.

We had seen good reviews on this restaurant but we’re still skeptical about the whole ‘eat with your hands’ thing. However we were wrong. If was a great experience and the food was delicious. Great for vegans and coeliacs. The couple running it are adorable.

We were expecting so much after all the positive reviews but we were left a bit disappointed. As many have said the portions are TINY and we’re not massive eaters. Eating with our hands was a unique experience but the pancake was thick and wet, like eating with an omelette. Food was very average we felt. Slow service again as mentioned many times. Lovely people but we’ve had significantly better meals in Iceland.
