About
Eileen's Special Cheesecake opened for business in December, 1975, and arrived in lower Manhattan on December 4, 1976. It was a "ghost town" when I first arrived, but that didn't bother me because the rent was low and I desperately needed a place to bake for my growing wholesale business. I hadn't considered the retail aspects of the business until people started knocking on the door of the bakery wanting to buy cheesecake. With that encouragement, I purchased a bakery case and began to conduct retail business. Soon after our cheesecake attracted the press and we were listed in "Best Bites" in New York Magazine. Radio station WOR rated us "Number One Cheesecake" and we appeared on television quite often whipping up batters of cheesecake. Time passed, and now Cleveland Place is in a popular area where the mix of people and restaurants and shops are so unique. Downtown is becoming the "place to be", and we are actually on most maps now. We survived difficult times, and now "let the good times roll"!

There are lots of fun flavors in the store. I visited right before Thanksgiving, so the lines were especially long and they were sold out of some flavors. Plenty of people were getting desserts to go, but a lot were eating at the shop. I got four personal sized cheesecakes and it was more than enough for four people. Everyone liked the different flavors.

Sometimes New York institutions survive on their enduring legacy and name, but Eileen's Special Cheesecake does not disappoint. Do not be put off by the line as it moves pretty quickly and they offer you a menu to look at so that you are ready to order by the time you reach the counter (and then be prepared to order more than you originally thought you wanted because...well you'll see when you get to the front and all the choices in front of you are screaming at you to take them home). Basically you can't go wrong with any flavor - they are all just the right combination of fluffy, cheesy sweetness and crumbly biscuit base. You'll want to come back again and again!

When you are in NYC, you cannot leave the city without trying New Yorker cheesecake. Because I wanted to do this in right place, I searched for opinions online. Everyone was saying that best cakes can be found in Eileen's Special Cheesecake located in SOHO. Place is pretty small but located in beautiful area. Inside you are being welcomed by very nice and polite guy. The variety of choice is huge! There are cheesecakes with fruits, sweets and many others. They are not cheap but definitely worth to try and at least in 2 pieces per person. You can eat delicious cake inside but, as I said before, place is pretty small so finding a place can be challenging. If you will be in NYC, go to SOHO and try the piece of heaven. Credit/debit cards allowed. Coffee could be better :)

Had to have some cheesecake whilst in New York. I saw the shop/cafe yesterday while walking around and when I googled New York City cheesecake it was the first hit. So I thought that’s good enough for me and I wasn’t disappointed!!!! At $6.50 for a small piece for what is 3-4 bites is a bit expensive but…. After tasting I’d say it was well worth it. Ordered marbled raspberry, pineapple and blueberry all were perfect. Couldn’t sit inside due to covid and it’s not that big inside anyway but there’s a nice park with seats less than 30 yards/metres away.

This place was suggested by a member of FDNY ... the finest. I went to choose for a quarantined trip back to NOLA! Of course could not resist buying some for myself and my family... delicious. We decided on the single serving variety so we could sample. I am a red velvet geek and was so pleased with the cheesecake variety ( when is Two Red Hens coming back to UES?? ) The help was so supportive and gave great suggestions... sorry I didn’t catch his name.

Myself, and three family members called out to Eileen's today during our holiday from ireland as its reputation for nice cheesecake. We walked in the door and the server was so rude to us because we were trying to see what flavours cheesecake were on offer. Because we didn't order straight away, she ushered us out of the queue. She was so rude and in a city where the service is normally so good, it was a disgrace. Your reputation won't last long with staff like that.

One thing that always interests me about travelling to different counties is seeing how food is perceived differently. With the above in mind, what people will eat in the Uk described as “New York Cheesecake” is absolutely not what you get here. Instead at Eileen’s you get a fresh, creamy and very special cheesecake. Usually truthfully I’m not a fan, but theirs had me looking for more if finished it! We opted for the Sprinkles and Cookies and Creak cheesecakes and at $5.75 a piece they are well worth the value! As it is takeout only we grabbed a fork and sat in the park opposite - perfect!

I walked approximately an hour to visit this shop, it was well worth it! So many different varieties and the server was lovely. The cheesecake was beautiful, l had salted caramel, red velvet & cookies/cream. This place is definitely worth a visit, especially if you love cheesecake.

My husband and I had heard about Eileen’s Special Cheesecake so we made sure to visit during our honeymoon. We sampled 4 different flavours between us and all were very tasty. We could have easily gone back for more! Prices were reasonable and the cheesecakes were good quality, some of the best we’ve had. It was a shame they were only doing take away when we visited; would have much preferred eating the cheesecakes inside rather than by the street. Would love to return and try more flavours!

I've been a customer for many years and it's very good(I particularly like the Key Lime) BUT I have to say, with the raised prices, it's just too overpriced now. The 6 inch cakes are very small for $28. I've started baking and can do much better for a quarter of that price or even less, homemade. Sorry Eileen.

Cheese cake tastes good but not that great to justify the $7 for a tiny piece. Most of flavors are out of order. And they don't allow eat inside the store. It is a quite famous spot but they seem not deserving it. Maybe it has passed its prime time and is going downhill.

I read a lot about cheesecakes in NYC on the Internet and this place was always in top 3. I tried the plain one, plain with strawberry and key lime. The taste was so good, especially of the plain one - had authentic cheesecake taste and texture. It is definitely worth the visit. Only downside is the price, as the charge 6 dollars per piece which is small. I understand the idea to try small different portions and not huge pieces that you cannot eat, but I think a bit bigger cakes would be better

We read about Eileen's and during our cheesecake tour of New York we knew we needed to add them to the list. We arrived when they opened the day after the Independence Day holiday, so they were catching up from no doubt some much deserved time off. The case was empty when we entered, yet they were kind to help us with what they had in the back. Thankfully they had what we wanted - simply some plain cheesecake and something else that looked good. Easy and quick to pay, grabbed forks and sat out on the bench in front of the store to eat them. A score! Definitely a different and lighter cheesecake than we are used to; very good! We also noted the countless people driving up and picking up very large orders, a great sign, too. Would definitely return!

We read a review recommending Eileen‘s over juniors, and it was so wrong. Eileen‘s over charges and under delivers. Half the cheesecake is air. We tried three different flavors and would not recommend any of them. We are going back to Juniors tomorrow.

I've been ordering cheesecakes from Eileen's for Thanksgiving for the past 20 years. The cakes are beautiful, moist and light, and Eileen's has a big variety of cool and unusual flavors. They are not overly sweet (like cheesecake factory) or overly dense (like junior's). My favorite is the caramel cheesecake. They have pumpkin cheesecake at Thanksgiving - a family fav. The cakes here have that nuanced burst of favor that i've found nowhere else. No eating in the store since Covid, but there's a little park with benches, right across the street.
