Our party of four visited last night with high anticipation and excitement. We waited two months for our reservation and read so many wonderful things about O Ya. We are adventurous eaters and had no problem with the unique offerings of the Twenty course dining...experience and also no problem with the price point of the experience. With that price point you do have an expectation of a certain level of service and quality of food. Our initial waitress although friendly did not know the courses as she should have. She did not know what fish was in a certain course, just told us each course by the description on the menu and rushed out the first five courses and then took forty-five minutes for the last three, basically forgetting us. Luckily, in between another waitress (she had glasses, nobody introduced themselves so I don’t know names) served us several courses. What a difference. She brought over a course, explained the dish, described how the different ingredients would taste in our mouth and how to eat it such as better in one bite or take bites because you’ll notice certain things. Completely prepared. As far as the actual food, the tuna was such a letdown. I noticed right away it tasted fishy which if you eat fish you know it shouldn’t. We catch Bluefin ourselves so we know what fresh tuna should taste like and we all agreed it did not taste fresh. If you are going to charge a high price point, you need to match that with a high level of service and food quality.More

Stopped here for a snack and drink with family. The nachos were delicious. My parents had the blood orange margarita and really enjoyed them. My boyfriend and I had the rose cider, it was good.

In the pantheon of fine meals there’s great and there’s those that transcend greatness and indelibly stamp themselves on your brain. O Ya is among the latter. Among the offerings some integrated caviar, sea urchin and wrapped up with a wagyu beef course. Our waiter...was fantastic. He was very helpful with our sake pairings. I like to go nuts with my credit card on anniversary dinners and O Ya was worth every penny. I would gladly go back and it’s a must try for anybody who loves sushi.More

This place was amazing! First off let me say, DO NOT GO HERE if you want to be like some of the other peeps complaining of the price. Everyone know the price before they even order, so if you don’t have the money for it...then take your BROKE ASS home! This is an omakase style restaurant, so you don’t order your food, it’s basically a huge pre fixe menu. We had approx 20 courses, and every course was delicious, however, my favorite was the Kyoto style mushroom sushi and the bluefin chutoro sushi, they was absolutely to die for! Keep in mind, because there are so many courses, each course is only one bites worth approximately. Also, keep an open mind, you will experience a plethora of flavor combinations and some might be a little out of the ordinary, but they were all so carefully thought out, to the point where I kept thinking “I literally would have never put the flavors together but they work so perfectly it’s incredible!” Anyways, it was such an amazing experience and we were so glad we came and enjoyed ourselves, even if the price was a little higher than we normally pay, it was worth every penny. It’s an entire experience, not just a meal. Thanks to all the staff of O Ya for an amazing evening!!! Wish I had taken pictures but it just slipped my mind bc I was in pure bliss as they brought out course after course after course. Also, service was impeccable, we never waited over 2-3 minutes for the next course once finished with whatever course we had at the moment.More

Oh Yeah, O Ya is the best Sushi I have ever put in my mouth... Dumb expensive and worth every bite . Insane creations they got going on there. The sushi and the staff were outta this world. We got lucky enough to get in...after a phone call and the time was at 930 pm....but we did it. And let me tell you....we would do it again. If you have been eating sushi all your life.... treat yourself to OYa so you can see how its really done. Small small small place. Getting in is the hardest part. But once your there prepare to be in for a treat. Everything was spectacular. And the host was a sweetheart and our waiter was phenomenal....Epic night...can't wait to do it again. #BuddhaReviewMore

We knew it would be an expensive meal so we were prepared to spend a decent amount. Jessica, our waitress was not pushy and she gave us a few tips for the menu which was helpful. The food really was outstanding. We sat at the...counter and it was a great experience to see the chefs crafting each dish. We had Tempura Mushroom, Pork Belly, Prawn Ramen and some sashimi and nigiri. The food was fantastic and we would highly recommend. Everything was truly delicious! We spent around £130 / $170.More

My spouse loves Japanese food, but as a vegetarian I am usually the stick in the mud when it comes to Omakase. O Ya pulled it off however - a 21 course Omakase to match the 'regular' one, highly creative in presentation and flavor, completely...vegetarian. The bites generally ranged from very good to sheer bliss, with one or two bites that were good but not super spectacular (the avocado tower was beautifully done in terms of presentation, but was still mostly a chopped avocado). They do not advertise the vegetarian Omakase, but they do have a separate vegetarian a la carte menu which served as the base for this bonanza. And according to the spouse, the 'regular' Omakase is to die for. We had the sake / wine pairing, which we highly recommend, you get a new pour every three dishes. Not cheap, but well worth the money.More

High quality food served in an intimate and low key setting. Prefer the a la Carte over the tasting menu, but for a first visit I would recommend the tasting menu.

We went as a special occasion dinner with the intention to enjoy only sushi. Having recently been in Tokyo and Osaka, where we were exposed to truly fine sushi, we thought O Ya was the place to go. We were not disappointed. There is a...large number of sushi options on the menu which appears to change daily. In addition there are “small plates“ that could be ordered to supplement the sushi. For our dinner we ordered seven different nigiri and sashimi sushi (two pieces each). Surprisingly we had a hard time determining which we liked the best. Each one introduced new flavors that were highly enjoyable. The restaurant is intimate, with both sushi counter and table seating. It is located within a couple blocks of South Station. In addition, they offer a multi course Omakase dinner that, while quite expensive, we would absolutely consider based on our very positive experience.More

I need to be savage here, because we paid almost one grand for 2 people. The good news is that we left full, and our server was mostly excellent. The bad news is the food. Of the 20+ courses in the grand omakase, the nigiri...was mostly good to very good, the chawanmushi was excellent, and the Wagyu beef was out of this world. But the sashimi was okay to not good, usually because the sauces overwhelmed the fish, and I ended up not being able to enjoy the fish. And that's a disaster for a tasting menu that is mostly sashimi. I knew I was not going to have just plain sliced fish, i.e. a traditional Japanese experience, but given the price, I should have gotten perfection in every bite. We actually did complain on a specific slice of the sashimi, and our server was very apologetic, offering us a different preparation. We asked for the fish plain, and it was so much better. Maybe I should have asked for everything plain, and that would have completely changed my view. Most people come for a special occasion, and unfortunately, we felt like we wasted a lot of money. Save for the Wagyu, we would be hard pressed to find the meal a value even at a third of the price. Sad.More

My sister and I went here for our birthday. Hers is the day before mine and mine was yesterday. We sat at the bar and ordered the grand omasake. It was 20 different dishes and 1 dessert. The omasake is only 17 but it's chosen...by the chef. At least the grand omasake you knew what you were getting into. Maggie was our server and she was excellent! She explained everything and what was in each dish. She was super friendly and very approachable. Everything was plated perfectly! From the first dish to the last, everything was picture perfect. Everything came out at a reasonable time. We didn't really wait for the next dish nor did it come too soon so that we were actually able to savor each dish that came out and able to digest. We didn't get a cocktail but we did get a mocktail. We both got the yuzu hibiscus tea. My only knock on the drink was the ice wasn't clear. It was cloudy. It's not a bar so I let it fly. It was a large cube and it did melt slowly. My favorite dishes were the A5 wagyu, then the bluefin toro, followed by the kumamoto oyster, then the matsutake mushroom, and the chutoro with fresh grated wasabi in that order. I've never had real wasabi before and it's completely different from the horseradish version you normally get. It's more earthy and less harsh tasting and nasal burning. It was actually kinda sweet tasting. The dessert at the end was excellent. It was a great way to finish up after eating 20 courses. The churro was so light and the 5 spice paired well with the pineapple and burnt sugar sauce. The deconstructed hello panda was exceptional. Overall, the experience was fantastic! It was definitely an amazing place to go for special occasions.More
