I had a terrible experience last morning when I went for pastries and coffee with friends visiting from England. The lady behind the counter was unfriendly and made us feel uncomfortable when we asked if we could have oat milk in our coffee. This is...not the first time I have had unfriendly service here so while paying I let the lady know that the pastries were great but that the service was consistently unfriendly and unwelcoming. Her response to me and my friend was a stern, “well then don’t come back.” I was shocked at her response and asked to see the manager. She told me that she was the owner which was even more shocking. I choose never to leave negative feedback. On restaurants. This time I feel different because I have never experienced anything like this in a restaurant before. My friend, a pastry chef from London-Manchester was horrified and commented that pastries are to be baked and served with happiness and love. This was sadly far from that. No surprise this will be my last visit here. I have a choice of so many wonderful customer oriented bakeries in Boston including a local James Beard winning pastry chef in the neighbourhood.More

Amazing food. Terrible service. I have seen places serve dinner faster than it takes them to serve 2 croissants and a coffee.

Super clean and yummy pastries. Will plan another trip some day and try a few different pastries. Croissants were perfect, flakey and buttery.

I had heard raving reviews of this cafe before trying it out. When I got there, I couldn't believe the line out the door-twenty or so people at 7am, so it was no wonder that most of the viennoiserie had sold out by the time...I could go inside. When I did, the cafe was cute and organized, but I was astonished at how understaffed they were; they only had one girl swept off her feet doing pastries and coffee when the demand is clearly consistently high. The croissant and banana bread were tasty, so my issue is not with the food, but with the management. The most shocking part of this experience was the chef in the kitchen swearing and shouting at her staff, clearly audible to me and the other customers in the store. I found this massively unprofessional and uncomfortable from a customer's point of view. Overall, I would say that the pastry was decent, if extremely overpriced, the coffee was good, and the front of house staff was friendly, but knowing that the cafe is in the hands of a chef who clearly has zero empathy for her customers and employees detracted from a visit to an otherwise charming bakery.More

We had several pastries from Cafe Madeleine. The eclairs were great, chocolate and coffee. The lemon tarte with meringue was likewise delicious.

We had some of the best pastries we've ever had from Cafe Madeleine. The chocolate croissants were truly outstanding: flaky, with just the right amount of excellent chocolate, and the right combination of crisp and tender. Also great were the raspberry and blueberry ones, made...with fresh berries. Full of flavor and the puff pastry is terrific. This is a small place with limited seating so we took our pastries to eat at home. Couldn't have been better.More

Stopped here for coffee and a bite before starting our day or travel. Not a lot of parking in the area, but it's a cute cafe, good coffee, and any type of pastry you could want.

Went to grab a quick breakfast and almost didn't know what to choose. There was an array of pastries freshly made with coffee and tea available. You could see the pastries being made on the other end of the cafe through their glass wall. I...had a pan de chocolate and a fruit tart that I ate later. Both were scrumptious.More

Café Madeleine makes the best croissants I have ever had (I have not been to Paris). They are flaky, crisp, delicious. Spectacular. Enough said. Just go.

A very cute cafe with some seriously good pastries. If you're walking around the area I suggest you stop in for a cup or coffee or tea and one of their numerous sweets. The lemon tart was particularly good and I've heard the macarons are...very good (I didn't try them since they only make 2 flavors everyday and I wasn't really feeling either).More

Had the ham and cheese croissant, as well as a dark chocolate cookie. Walked to Sparrow Park and ate lunch. Classy French bakery in the South End.

Amazing. I had heard that this was the place other pastry chefs visited when they wanted something delicious. Now I can see why. With a minimal but plentiful menu, this tiny place packs a big punch with their delicious pastries. I had something that looked...like a muffin with shaved almond and orange peel on top and a light sweet cream in the middle. Not too sweet, not too heavy. It was heavenly. Their croissants, tarts, eclairs and cookies all looked delicious. We bought the 12 pack of macaroons with one of each of their flavors inside. Wow were these delicious. Also great to give as a gift - they wrap it so nicely. I also had the chicken and bacon sandwich which was very tasty and enough for two people. We had their hot chocolate, and it was amazing. Highly recommend and can't wait to come back!More
