About
Legal Sea Foods began in 1950 as a fish market in the Inman Square neighborhood of Cambridge, Massachusetts. It’s here that the “Legal” name became synonymous with quality and freshness. In 1968, our first seafood restaurant opened, right next to the fish market. The fish was simply prepared, either broiled or fried, and served on paper plates at communal picnic tables. Despite the low-key trappings, the food was second to none and word quickly spread. This early success led to further expansion and now, six decades later with restaurants along the Eastern Seaboard, the commitment to freshness and quality endures: "If it isn't fresh, it isn't Legal!”

Here’s the deal, in a town known for seafood this place is a waste of time. We arrived to an empty restaurant and were told there were no tables. We were seated at the bar, which is totally fine, except it took 10 min to...be acknowledged and there were two bartenders and maybe 5 guests. We ordered drinks and appetizers at the same time, the iced tea was sour and the food was way overpriced, tiny portions and tasteless. After we ordered we were never spoken to again until we decided to leave and find dinner elsewhere. Then we were handed our check - no pen, no holder, no conversation, nothing. 5 shrimp, 2 crab cakes, and iced tea was $76.00! If I’m going to spend a ton of money the least they could do was offer us service! We will never return to this location or any other. In fact, we spent the remainder of our time in Boston learning from the locals where to go to avoid tourist traps like this place.More

Except of unexplained waiting time to be seated, all other issues were good- All served dishes were at a generous size, taste (had salads, lobster, different fish and desert). Good and pleasant music (for our taste). Over all-recommended

Legal Seafoods is always my first choice in Boston, but I had not been to this location before. It is a couple of blocks away from Boston Commons and a very convenient spot after shopping and sightseeing. Excellent food, service and location.

We came here on a recommendation for a good seafood restaurant. It is a chain restaurant, but for the Boston area this seems to be the place. The prices are a bit high but it was enjoyable. I got the traditional crab cake combo and...it comes with seared scallops and shrimp. Crabcakes were delicious as were the scallops and shrimp. Portions weren’t great on the scallops and shrimp, but the crab cake was normal sized. It comes with rice, but I swapped it out for the steamed broccoli. Our waitress was great and the food was great. My sister wasn’t hungry so she just got a Caesar salad and said it was fine. This meal satisfied my Boston seafood craving!!More

Amazing seafood and portions. Our group had the fish and chips, breaded haddock, and salmon. We all raved about the flavors. The sides are very large and the presentation was well done! Specialty drinks were delish too.

Legal Seafood is one of those places we always to return to while in Boston, but sadly, this dining destination has declined in quality since the change in ownership. Most recently, Legal was simply average in every way, no doubt losing market share in a...very competitive restaurant market. We regret the passing of a great local restaurant chain.More

We had a great lunch here. Nice ambiance, good menu, good prices, good food, good service. It was a very welcome retreat from a busy sight seeing morning. I was a little weary seeing as it’s a chain, but it had a great menu with...some local favorites. Our waitress was great and we just really enjoyed ourselves.More

Our server was David. He started off OK but then it just went wrong. We got the wrong drinks, he went to change them and we waited, and waited and then chased him - he had forgotten but blamed the bar. Ordering food seemed tricky,...we had to correct him on a few points but then it seemed to click and we assumed all was ok? Our starter arrive - perfectly pleasant and half way through eating them our entrees arrived, what?? The young guy who brought them seemed to think it was OK to try and leave them on our table whilst we ate our starters?? No. We suggested he take them back to the kitchen and he said he’d keep them warm?? No again - it will need to be made fresh as we had fish. David arrives and we explain the situation - would appear that was the kitchens fault? Our entrees arrived, not sure if reheated? Either way, they were tasty. David brings our bill and then wanders off, we could see him by the side of the kitchen but he just stays put. We waited for 10 minutes then wandered down to the bar to pay it directly there. Food 7/10 Value for money ($140+ for 2 courses and 2 drinks) 4/10, service 1/10 Safe to say we will never bother with this ‘chain’ again.More

We ordered half a dozen oysters and the Clam Chowder for starters followed by the Lobster Roll and the Baked Lobster with shrimp and scallop stuffing. Clam Chowder was 9/10 – good consistency, pieces of clams, tasty and nicely balanced. Lobster Roll was 8/10 –...good chunks of lobster meat on a buttered roll and good proportion of lobster meat to bun. It was delicious and tasty. Baked Lobster with shrimp and scallop was 10/10 – the combination of the stuffing and the buttered lobster was the perfection combination. It also came with choice of 2 sides and we ordered the Szechuan Green Beans and Fregola Salad which were delicious. And to top off the amazing food, a huge shout out to Renee D for her friendly, genuine, efficient service and great recommendations.More

Went in looking forward to a nice dinner. We lived in DC for 20 years and had some good meals at LS. Sadly, tonight will be memorable for all the wrong reasons. Had reservations and the encounter with the “hostess” set the tone for a...bad night. She had no business being the face of the restaurant given the poor disposition she put on display. Not a smile, not a hello, nothing but a countenance that screamed she did not like her job or care about customers. Our waiter was only slightly better though it was hard to judge as he neglected us completely once he took our order. A runner delivered our food and we never saw him again except to get the check. Not once did he check on us to see if the food was okay or if we needed another drink. And, no, the restaurant was not busy, nor was the restaurant understaffed. The food was not okay. I ordered grilled salmon and it was so overcooked the top of it had the texture of leather. In short, a terrible meal made worse by poor service.More

We made a reservation incorrectly, missing our appointed time. They seated us anyway, which was awesome. I had the cioppino, and my friend had the lobster. Service was very good, atmosphere fine. My cioppino was excellent! My friend said her lobster tail was overcooked but...the claws were perfect. Wine offering was good as well. Recommend!More
