We had a wonderful birthday dinner at Oishii Boston. There were so many enticing options on the menu. Some of what we loved: crispy vegetable dumplings, lobster dumplings, pork belly buns, crispy mango maki, vegetarian truffle maki, and black sesame ice cream. Yum!! I've been to Oishii a number of times over the years. I first had sushi in 1980. Since then I've enjoyed it in the finest restaurants all over the world, including many times in Tokyo and Osaka. I travelled down from the North Shore just...for this special meal with my nephew. The prices are outrageous. Servings are pitifully small, however visually beautiful. We all left there hungry because, although I could afford to eat more, I felt taken advantage of. Their attitude is quite pretentious. I will never go there again.More
I would have driven right by Oishii, let alone walk right by it. You can tell it's Oishii by the little "O" on the sign above the door. But then you walk in and it is still understated. Keep walking and just hear me out......If you are not sure what to order, grab a cocktail and take a look (and smell) what others around you are ordering. I would not have ordered the Smoked Hamachi appetizer that comes out under this pedestal like thing smoking, unless the gals next to me did. The server then presents it to you...Voila! It's not just about the presentation...The thing smells like something not of this world. And tastes like it smells. I just do not have words. We also had the Toro Tartare, which had an equally grand presentation and tasted just as amazing. For entrees, we had the White Tiger roll and some sashimi. The sashimi were no small slices, mind you. Oishii does not skimp when slicing here. Overall, just an amazing evening and well worth the $$$$.More
We were hoping that the sushi would be way better than the suburbs. After driving into Boston with another couple a few days before Christmas we were excited to celebrate. We were so disappointed. The food was so over-priced for what it was! The sushi...was bland with no flavor that I even forgot what I ordered. The appetizers were meh and the service was null. I couldn't believe when the bill came how much we were paying for sub par food. I would never come back. Especially since the no-named sushi place next door to where we live has better service/food and to top it is a fourth of the price!! I know better places in Boston--def not going back.More

One of the better sushi bars in Boston no doubt. Excellent choice for nice japanese meal always best to go on weekend rush because of delivery for fresh is best then. The chefs make a Nice presentation and the food is tasty. We had everything...from Ankimo to hamachi Kama and black cod.More
We were visiting from Singapore and were extremely impressed by the quality and variety of food, presented elegantly and served in style. Loved it and will sure be a regular.

The simple modern decor felt very traditional and was warm and inviting. There are multiple options of seating (lounge/bar, sushi bar, tables). The sake list is excellent and has all styles and price ranges. The menu has so many crave worthy items I have to...plan to come for multiple visits. The sushi was perfection both traditional and more modern interpretation and that is just the beginning of the menu. Uni pasta with poached egg and truffle, ramen, crispy rice with spicy tuna, and for dessert 3 pieces of sushi -lobster claw, foie gras, and wagyu. It was an epic meal !!More
As others have echoed in these reviews, this is not the place to go if you want good sushi (nigiri). What it does have, and does well, are "American sushi" - sushi rolls (maki) and the other menu items. But if you are looking for...traditional sushi nigiri, you might as well go somewhere else. Who on earth puts garnishes, such as lime and other ingredients on top of their nigiri?? Nigiri is supposed to be a celebration of rice, vinegar and the fish. Instead, they add garnish on top of this that often completely overpowers the subtle tastes that are otherwise in the rice and fish. What on earth? Just stick to the rolls guys. You do those very well. And the other items on the menu are also excellent. But just stop with what you are doing to the nigiri.More
Out of this world culinary experience ... Lobster dumplings to absolutely die for!!! And a 'first time ever seen' broiled edamame ... you gotta get them!
On the street, you can’t recognize the place as a restaurant. Inside it’s nice. We got a terrible place, in the most hidden corner they have, where employees are all the time going in and out. So I asked for another table, just beside ours...and it was quite better. We had pork gyoza, some sushis and “shrimp explosion”, that is maki with fried shrimp on the side. Everything well prepared, taste good, but sometimes the fish is just amazing good! I missed that...More
Beware, this is not a Japanese restaurant! No one JAPANESE in there! Dirty... the sushi rice was glue, the toppings were complicated full of stuff to hide the hideous fish. We complaint, didn’t even finish the food. They didn’t even apologize or gave us a...discount for the food left. I cannot understand all the awards... they have no clue about Japanese culture.More
Truly enjoyed an early dinner at Oishii. Service spot on, including a tasty amuse-bouche of pureed edamame. Fish on each choice was fresh. Ting's garden dumplings tender. Crispy salmon maki so good we ordered a second roll! (althought not as crispy as the name would...imply). This SEnd neighborhood seems to be transitioing, but don't let that throw you off course. We sat at a table in the sushi bar area which was dark even early on a summer evening. The dining room past us seemed even more of a closet.More
