My wife and I felt like we had gone to heaven with the wonderful aroma from the bakery. We bought a pound of the assorted cookies to take to a family friend. I only had one of the cookies but can easily say it was...great. My wife, her friend and her husband all appreciated the cookies, and we were told they were gone quickly. The price was a little high, but the quality was certainly there.More

We ordered a box of cookies- which had a great variety and among the best in its class. Highly recommend a stop for the cookies.

This place was recommended during our Fenway Tour - we were told to compare it to Mike's Pastry. Both are great, just depends on what you're looking for! I ordered some truffles and pecan turtles, all tasty.

In preparation for our first ever trip to Boston, I learned that Cannolis are a big deal, and there are two main places to get them. I’d heard that Modern Pastry Shop was the best, AND the least touristy, more local spot, so we went...there first. It did not disappoint . We had originally planned to just try some cannolis, but when we got there, we found they had a cute little cafe-type seating area, AND they serve full breakfasts! We did purchase a number of tasty baked goods, including a cannoli. We only got one, cause there was so much we wanted to try. It was excellent (I personally thought it was better than that other place, but my wife liked the other place a liiiitle better than Modern). Anyways, we got a full breakfast with eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, and fruit. It was delicious. We split it since we also got the cannoli and another flaky pastry as well (plus all the other stuff we took to go). We washed it down with coffee (for the wife) and cocoa (for myself). The girl at the counter who took our order was friendly and the food came out quickly. It was a really cute shop, and we really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Definitely a recommend.More

We go to North End fairly often but ever since we tried Modern Pastry we always stop there. Everything we tasted was good to OMG great. Especially the lobster tail, which is basically 4 servings and is much easier to eat at home (it's generously...filled with cream/custard thing and needs sharp knife to apportion it). The desserts at Mike's pastry across the street are significantly different in taste (suffice to say we tried 4 there and will not try any more). If you liked Modern Pastry you should also try Jonquils Cafe and L.A. Burdick in Back Bay.More

Terrible service. No one smiles, they barely make eye contact. Cash only business (be prepared) Biscotti and cannoli were both fresh and delightful.

This amazing pastry shop deserves all the accolades as one of the top places in Boston. This place normally has incredibly long lines, so when we walked by and saw that it was pretty quiet, we decided to take advantage and sit at one of...the few tables to enjoy table service (and we appreciated that this place even has tables, unlike Mike's Pastry). The dessert menu is really big, and we liked being able to look at all the marvelous desserts behind the counter so we could make a decision. The eclair and the parigina were both divine - they were light and airy, without the overly sweet heaviness of many desserts. We didn't finish our pastries, and the manager on duty wrapped up our leftovers for us himself, and very kindly added some extra cream to the eclair for us. The whole shop is non-fussy and lets the desserts take center stage. Please note that this place is cash-only, although many of the desserts are $5/piece, which is really affordable.More

Amazing. I wanted to order one of everything! Nicely sized items and well priced. We visited at an off peak time, so it wasn’t especially busy. We had ample time and space to make our decisions. We ordered a cannoli and an eclair. We saved...both (had just eaten a large lunch), and even the next morning, they were still good! Highly recommend! If we return to Boston, we’ll return here!More

This spot I was told where locals go! I see why. The Cannoli’s are delicious 🤤 My only regret was not buying more than what I bought! Shame on me.

Pastries that are so pricey and it’s cash only? I’m shocked they are still in business. We were amongst many who left after being told Cash only. No thank you!

I hardly ever write reviews, but I must say, these were some of the BEST pastries I have ever eaten. The lobster tail was massive but incredible and the cannoli were hard to beat! 10/10 recommend.

If you find yourself on vacation on Hanover Street in the North End of Boston, then you will be challenged as to which pastry shop is the better, Modern pastries or Mike’s Pastries. That is where the fun begins. The best thing to do is...try pastries from both shops and compare. In the end you will need to decide which you prefer. The one noticeable difference is that Modern pastries has an area to sit and enjoy your pastries, they also have a downstairs that serves stronger beverages than coffee. Modern Pastries was founded in 1930. They have a great assortment of pastries. It makes deciding which pastry to choose once in the store. We sat at one of the few tables and ordered after seeing what we wanted. We had coffee, two custom designed cannoli, and a tiramisu. The tiramisu was soft and delicious. The custom designed cannoli were fantastic. We tried Mike’s as well later and decided we enjoyed Modern’s the best. You will have to make your own determination.More

Family recommended we stop here for dessert while in Boston. We let each of the kids pick a dessert. It was my first time trying a cannoli and it was pretty tasty. I got the key lime pie which was very yummy. We also got...the cheesecake, chocolate layer dessert thing, and a cupcake. We all enjoyed our desserts. Line was long but we were happy with our desserts.More
