Very good food and good ambiance. Duck and tuna were great. Great selection or spirits and wine. Go for the food and drinks not a “trendy” spot.

Appalling service and mediocre food may be best you can hope for at this Chestnut Hill restaurant. We chose it as the venue to celebrate an uncle’s 85th birthday, mainly because of our shared French heritage. After waiting for several minutes during a lunchtime when...only a few other tables were occupied, and after double checking our name, the server picked up 4 menus and without even a welcome, walked to a nearby table and dropped the menus there. He asked one of us what kind of water she wanted and when he returned, was visibly annoyed when the rest of us wanted something different. I could go on and on but it would be more of the same. I would judge the food to be not much better than a fast food joint and the only thing remotely French about it is that the menu offerings are listed in French. Because of the special occasion, we didn’t want to make a scene while there. The following day, I used the restaurant’s contact page to let them know about the service and asked them to call me. I didn’t want to post a review until they called back. Since they haven’t done so in 48 hours, they obviously have no more interest in us or our opinions than the server did. I guess it’s possible the server is the Manager!! I could close by advising anyone thinking of dining at Aquitaine to choose one of the excellent nearby alternatives. But that is probably unnecessary as based on this performance and the low number of diners during our visit, it’s likely that it’s days are numbered.More

We ordered a bottle of wine for $52 and were charged $69! The manager told us that “it was their problem” as the prices were going up in 2 days time. His attitude was far from contrite but condescending and frankly rude. We also learned...that this was a known problem and are shocked by the lack of customer service.More

Just for context, I'd like to share that I am a South End local and foodie. Even though I have visited the restaurant multiple times my last experience was utter disrespect for the customer experience and neighborhood loyalty. I solicited an item in their online...pickup menu through a third-party vendor (Toast) which redirected me to the main location. After trying to contact them and paying for my order which was scheduled within an hour I went ahead and visited Aquitaine. As I've experienced multiple times the Host (unfriendly and judgmental) went ahead to inform me of the obvious situation regarding the location of my order. Thereafter, he offered to help by calling the other location to see what was the status of my order. He did not. A couple of minutes later he came up to request the payment for an identical order. He then went on to dumb-down an explanation of why the order is out of his hands and how they can prepare the same thing (once I paid them what I had already paid). When I went on to ask for clarification and thanked him for the unsolicited bill he ended up saying that's fine ill cancel both of them. I hope that there can be a serious reconsideration of what a client-centered environment means.More

A hidden gem! Aquitaine was recommended by a long time Bostonian, and it didn't disappoint! My husband and I were in Paris this time last year. Thus for the business trip to Boston this year, we were excited to try some good French restaurants. Their...duck (both the duck breast dinner plate & the lunch breast sandwich) was superb! Sauteed mushrooms were amazingly flavorful. The truffle burger was excellent as well. Great wine selection too. The dishes were way better than the fancy French restaurants by Newbury street, which we tried earlier. The price is very reasonable for downtown. The walk from the convention center to the restaurant took us through quaint cobblestone streets. The ambiance was fantastic. Great service - Paola was energetic, Martin is classy and professional, the maître-D remembered us from two nights ago, and welcomed us warmly. Compared to all the overcrowded, overpriced downtown restaurants, head to Aquitaine!More

This is a classic French bistro with great ambiance and excellent food. The escargot were amazing as was the sole meuniere. The service also was first rate and friendly. Also, the prices were very reasonable. This is a must!

Lovely atmosphere and great food - the steak and sole are highly recommended. This bistro is located on Tremont Street in Boston’s South End, an area worth visiting for its up and coming character, cool vibe and array of cafes. Super friendly staff too!

We really enjoyed the night. Service was fantastic - attentive and friendly but also kept enough distance so we could enjoy the night. Atmosphere is great -very south end bistro and done very well. And drinks and food were excellent. The bourbon smash, and fig...manhattan were really good, and the bread pudding for dessert is not what one would expect from bread pudding and was fantastic, as was the rest of the mealMore

Great atmosphere and vibe with friendly service and a small but nice wine list. You'll pay through the nose but its on Tremont Street so that's par for the course. We recommend the French Onion soup - made with a healthy amount of sherry for...an insanely rich broth - and the duck l'orange. The sole meunière, certainly a classic, didn't have much taste but given the Parisian vibe I figured it was worth a shot. Great creme brule with action taste too. Overall a nice experience with a cool vibe, but most of us can't afford this place more than once a year.More

Whilst the food and service were very good, But, I suffered a cold draft whilst sitting indoors, presumably from the front door which opened and closed continually. I mentioned it to my waiter and the manager came over and said that the door wouldn’t shut...properly. There also didn’t seem to be any heating. He said he’d put us in the warmest place he could find and claimed it would warm up when more diners arrived. It didn’t. My fellow diner removed his jacket and gave it to me but really, it put a downer on the night. Advice: don’t go unless you like being cold or they fix the front door and get the heating working.More

I have be dining here forever. The food is tasty and the atmosphere welcoming and festive. They now have many outside tables but the kitchen really can't accommodate this many people. As a result the service has really slowed down, the food is uneven, and...our dinners were cold. We had to ask for a check as our entrees arrived. Not a good look for such a nice place.More

My husband and I spent our Anniversary weekend in Boston. Our first night was seeing the Eagles which was simply amazing! We followed it up the next evening by celebrating at Aquitaine located in the South End. Service was great, servers all masked and following...Covid protocol. But best of all was our dinners. Just fabulous. I have eaten a lot of salmon over many years and this was by far the best prepared salmon I have ever had! My husband had pork prepared as the Chef recommended which was perfect. I highly recommend Aquitaine to anyone looking for well prepared food in an unhurried atmosphere where lingering over a fine meal is just part of the experience.More

Most of the dining experience was excellent...nice atmosphere, great service, and the food was very good except for two things: 1. My wife's onion soup. It tasted a little "off" - had a taste of sesame oil or something. Our waiter said they use lemon...oil in their recipe. Anyway, he took it off the bill (thank you). 2. The whipped potato puree under her Dover sole was cold when served. A new (hot) plate of puree was delivered promptly. (again, thank you) Later that night, my wife had several bouts of diarrhea. We suspect food poisoning, maybe the soup? Wonder if anyone else ate there on August 4 and had the soup? Maybe it was a one-off issue, but sadly we won't be rushing back there.More

This restaurant has all of the charm of a Parisienne bistro. The food was absolutely superb. I had the duck, which was probably the best I have ever had. Their chocolate mousse was equally delicious. I also loved their version of an old fashioned. The...only negative I would say is that there is a slight service fee for the kitchen staff, but that is because I believe the owner(s) should pay his/her/their staff a decent wage. I personally think tipping should be done away with, even if that means I pay more for my meal...but I digress. Visit this charming restaurant, which is located in a charming neighborhood, as you will not be disappointed!More

You might actually find street parking around there depending on time of day, but I’d get a cab.
