About
A true gem among all those rhinestones in the North End, this rustic but cozy trattoria with stucco walls and beamed ceilings specializes in creative interpretations of Italian classics. Behind Terramia’s pane-windowed storefront on Salem Street is a busy 39-seat trattoria decked out in linens, candlelight and paintings of the Italian countryside. Like the cuisine here, the atmosphere is elegant yet understated. Since opening in 1993, Terramia has aimed to convince North End diners that there was always more to Italian food than red sauce. Over the Years, the inventive and beloved restaurant has done a great deal of convincing. You’ll find creative interpretations of seasonally-based classics

We had dinner here based on reviews that described it as warm and friendly. Also that the parpadelle bolognese was gf and delicious. We found the space to be noisy and unable to have a conversation. Parpadelle gf was unavailable and the only gf pasta...was penne. It was not good, flavorless and the meat was all ground meat and overly garlicky and dry. The appetizer of scallops was very good. I doubt that I would return although my husband liked the ravioli with short ribs. It was rushed and waiter could care less about our dining experience. I will not be returning. Major disappointment.More

HI Regina, Sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the gluten free penne. We also want you to know that we never had gluten free pappardelle, so there was more than likely a misunderstanding in the other persons review of the pasta. We also...More

Exceptional service, Gabriel is a legend! Thoughtful selection of starters, an abundance of pastas (hard to choose!) and daily specials that make it near impossible to choose! Such a cozy, charming spot. Truly no better experience in the North End- you won’t be disappointed!

Wonderful menu of classic Italian dishes with a contemporary twist. Very accommodating staff: I reserved a week before our planned dinner because I was expecting a large group of twelve; we ended up a smaller group (seven) but found everyone friendly and expeditious with service...and questions. A few of us did have their fabulous tiramisu for dessert, but I'd love it if they served coffee...More

My girlfriend is a vegan and I'm not. And I love this place. They cater to so many dietary needs, preferences or restrictions AND THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS no matter what you get. A vegan can find a great meal. Gluten free? Sure. Vegan, vegetarian,...carnivore, carb lover, they have such a variety and it is ALL GOOD. We have been there at least 4 times over the past 6 months and been supremely pleased every single time. I can't even pick my favorite item on the menu because they have all been great. Variety, accommodation and a great spot right in the heart of the North End. What's not to like? The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and happy to recommend based on ur requests. This has become our favorite go to in Boston.More

What a great find. We were looking for a restaurant within walking distance of our hotel and the TD Garden where we were going to see a concert. Cozy restaurant with comfortable table spacing for privacy. Many things on the menu that I could have...had but choose a special. Everyone in our party of four was happy with the meal choices. We were there last night in a group of seven. Everybody loved the food. I had the lamb shank which was perfect. My wife was happy with the salmon. The caprese salad had ripe flavorful tomatoes (in December!) and scrumptious mozzarella. I would rate the...kitchen spectacular. But there were very strange policies that may want to make you think twice about scheduling a group dinner there. We had two couples and three singles; when I asked for separate checks at the beginning our server gave us a hassle about it and relented only when I got up to complain to the manager about it. Then he said they they would only accept a maximum of two credit cards at any table. Huh??? Merchant fees for processing credit cards are a percentage of the amount and not a function of how many cards are processed, so that policy is just lunatic. We got past it by the three singles offering to pay in cash. Finally, there was no coffee or tea. Yes, folks, you heard it here: a fine dining establishment where you can't finish your meal with coffee or tea. By the way, there is no bar, only wine and beer. This is not a defect, but something you should be aware of.More

Is it an arrogant assumption that everything is good with your meal so there is no reason to check in and make sure? We thought our server was just quiet but apparently he had an attitude. At least the food was good. Single restroom needed...attention.More

Looked for a restaurant that could accommodate a gluten free and nut free diet and Terramia did not disappoint. Their Cabernet by the glass was full bodied, the scallop appetizer grilled to perfection, and the Chicken Marsala the best I’ve ever had! The salmon was...just okay. The crab topping much too salty. The other people in our table loved all the pasta dishes. Our server was wonderful as well. Can’t wait to return!More

This was a birthday dinner for our daughter on 8/28, the same day we moved her into her freshman dorm. We noted that on the online reservation and were greeted at the door with "Happy birthday!" She has celiac disease and the waiter was friendly...and knowledgeable and explained their careful gluten free preparations. We all loved our dishes, the complexity of flavor. Linguine alla vongole, gnocchi ai funghi, and salmon. You know how you hope a special occasion dinner will feel magical and relaxed and luxurious, so you can concentrate on conversation and enjoying the company? Terramia was exactly that. They brought out a gluten free chocolate cake with a candle in it for her birthday. Outside it was CRAZY, one of the loud crowded shoulder to shoulder nights in the North End. Once we walked inside it was an oasis of friendly calm and awesome food. Actually magical! We read a lot of reviews before picking Terramia and the atmosphere, incredible food, and staff who took time to make us feel welcome were even better than we expected. We understood why they have been in business for so long. Thank you!More
